The wording here is so fucked up imo. Bubbles "ingests content", authors have opted in to "mechanical consumption" by having public RSS feeds
It really lets you know how this developer views the indie web: if you didn't want your work to be literally devoured by LLMs, you shouldn't have made your sites so open and easy to access. It takes full advantage of the desire people have of wanting to share their work online and connect with others. It's fuckin gross

One of the most heartbreaking recent developments is that a lot of sites that used to have public RSS feeds have gotten rid of them, specifically because of shitty practices like this. In order to protect yourself from getting your ""content"" fed into these models, folks have to make their sites harder for normal people to access. Because if you maintain a public RSS, well, don't you know you're consenting to being fed into the machine? 🥴

I was reminded today of the way we Olde Ones used to get fansubbed anime in the mail. You'd have to find a distro online and mail them some blank VHS tapes plus cash for shipping back, and usually (if it wasn't a scam or got lost in the mail) you'd get your tapes back months later with some fansubbed anime recorded on them
Some distros wouldn't require you to mail blank VHSes, they'd send you their own. Perhaps most memorably, Kodocha Fansubs would send you Barney-purple tapes lol
idk who needs to hear this but scrcpy is a really easy way to mirror your (Android) phone to your computer, which is great for me because I have some mobile-only apps where I want to type a lot of stuff (Bookmory, etc) but don't want to type using my fat thumbs. So I plug it into my computer and use my keyboard to type in book notes 👍

The labeling combined with the way the Bubbles dev vibecodes stuff like calendar templates (lol) suggests to me that Bubbles.town itself is almost certainly vibecoded, at least in part. I would seriously hesitate to add the upvote script to your blog

Probably the most heartbreaking part of this is if you go to the front page of Bubbles.town, you'll see a lot of bloggers championing the human touch of the indie web, the rejection of this broad-scale, mindless consumption of "content" by algorithms and LLMs, and their delight at what looks at first glance like a community-driven approach to sharing blog posts among like-minded people
How many of them would be happy to know that Bubbles.town is feeding their sites into Claude lol

I could have sworn this section on "AI Classification" was not there when I checked earlier, but anyway Bubbles.town DOES apparently say that your feeds are going into Claude so each individual post can be categorized (as opposed to your website getting labeled once upon initial indexing). It says that it respects robots.txt but just speaking for myself, I have Anthropic bots blocked in robots.txt and yet I can see my posts getting labeled on there

For comparison, this is what it looked like on April 20, before the bad weather set in. As you can see it got quite a bit darker and its initial leaves stayed quite small before withering further... but now there is promising new greenery shooting up in the center 👀

@NIGHTEN Search engines don't (or at least, didn't used to) hammer sites like DDoS attacks trying to consume and process sites. Also the day I trust Anthropic to not actually be training off of data being fed into it from apps like this is the day hell freezes over lol, like oh my gosh who ever heard of an AI company lying about the unethical way they were harvesting data 🙄
