I make a real effort, in any place I think I might end up frequenting or do frequent, to learn names and to be kind to the staff. Not to get better service, but because it makes going back somewhere more pleasant. Plus, once you know who the good service industry folks in town are, you get clues about new places based on who hops jobs to start at the new place…

Look, I _totally_ understand how you can end up in a Waffle House and not know how you got there (I mean, it happened to, um, a friend, this one time…) but you don't insist teleportation is possible, you simply don't *tell that story*.
