I'm not actually a fungus studying your 'internet' to see if there is anything to be learned from a network that can't even transport nutrients for the greater glory of our mycorrhizial networks; but it's more entertaining than the truth.

IT; IT security in the sense that I'm the member of the department who worries most.

@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org This seems like the massively important point to hammer home as often(and as loudly and publicly) as possible. There might be some genuine kool-aide drinkers out there(who still shouldn't be allowed near important things); but more than a few "AI" initiatives are pretty cynical exercises in people trying to get away with adjusting spending to match how much they care; and that's not something you want people to get the benefit of the doubt for.

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place Worse, it looks awfully like it might actually be depressing use (or non-use engaged enough to leave a review) across the board. Hard to exclude confounding factors rigorously enough to be sure; but something is pummeling usage and reviews and the idea that large quantities of bot slop in the store is a "THE MARKET FOR “LEMONS”: QUALITY UNCERTAINTY AND THE MARKET MECHANISM" situation certainly has a plausible taste to it.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange There's something about talking about your 'velocity' in a sedentary job that has the same distasteful vibe as relentlessly hammering the military jargon when you fundamentally are there to be the patch conscience that nobody else is and turn on MFA. Exceptions can be made for anyone who is literally an orbital mechanic, rocket surgeon, or similar; obviously. And then there's the much more blatant implied admission that 'velocity' normally gets YOLOSEC treatment, because of course.

@AndrewRadev There's something repulsive, but morbidly fascinating, about how ed-tech is sort of a mirror-mirror version of social media. In both cases the UX is garbage because the user isn't the real customer, and in both cases there's an awfully fine line between 'business model' and 'large and ill-designed experiment on children that would give an IRB cold feet had you asked one, not that you did'.

@GossiTheDog It seems like a bad look for anyone; and a very, very, bad look for an outfit with substantial cloud offerings that are mostly on a 'trust me bro' basis when it comes to what they supposedly can't or won't do to a customer tenant. This should be absolutely radioactive for Microsoft; both their response to one or more of their people basically doing malware with company resources and the questions about exactly how well-watched the roles with insider threat potential are or aren't.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social Not a huge surprise, with bankers and suits; but what always baffles me is how 'AI' means that the sky is falling and it's a totally new world or something; but we're just awash in a sea of low-hanging security improvements that the people who care are just screaming futilely into the void about. Not even gearhead stuff(though there is that as well); but 'vaguely competent IT minion does inventory' level problems get zero interest.

If you can get the risk perception adjusted correctly the openness of the license need not be an obstacle to encouraging people to buy it from IBM.

Will it hit that same combination of being atrociously unmaintainable in some way; but also being far too critical to just toss; or is there going to be a much higher rate of easy come/easy go projects that are terrible; but don't actually have the core of value that requires you to take them seriously in order to kill them.

Is that supposed to read as "the Epstein class are your philosopher kings, peasant!"; as "We at Palantir would like our targets to STFU about our customers." or "You were supposed to be impressed by Elon Musk!" I'm not entirely sure I want to know; but the idea that we've, um, somehow missed out on a lot of great leadership through, checks notes, too little tolerance for moral turpitude, seems...peculiar.

Especially with a massive sino-russian border I don't doubt that someone who really cared could make two 'clean' phones and some anonymous IoT SIMs fall off the back of a truck, one to stay with the bomb and one to detonate it with; but users like that aren't getting their phones checked by random street cops.

We're basically begging any production-related department we can to obtain an engineer old school enough to be more angry that OT has been sullied by IT than IT is that OT has chosen convenience again.

Does anyone know if there have been any recent incidents with .rdp phishing? It's been known for ages that getting someone to accept a connection with 'drives' included goes badly; so I was surprised when they just suddenly, with little notice, added a first .rdp scary warning and per-publisher resource options(still no option to just allowlist specific publishers for your environment, it seems).

Normally they roll that sort of thing out fairly slowly; so I'm wondering if someone got bitten.
