I had to fire a customer today because he wasted over two weeks of my time with his insistence of using some LLM or another for his "graphic design" tasks instead of just paying me $25 to get the problems fixed with his designs within minutes so I could go to press.

Sorry dude, I can't afford to go back and forth with you and your chatbot any more, I have work to do. I referred him to one of those slop shop self serve "print" sites where he can waste hours of his own time without involving me.

One of those "been around the block a few times" moments in business where I recognize it's more profitable to let go of a customer than it is to continue coddling and attempting to educate them.

Yo Ho Ho, motherfuckers, Stern Radio is heating up 6.922Mhz right now (~0100utc) with a lovely 10khz wide yay-em sig playing industrial, death metal and other gems.

I'm catching him S9+++ off my long wire here in Detroit.

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange You could try calling CQ. (seek you) instead of CW, I bet you'd get more replies. 😉 Also I'll tell you something most gate keeping motherfuckers wont: don't sweat the theoretical losses through ATUs. Unless you're running hard core QRP, it's not enough to worry about. You're can lose a whole lot more of your radiated power via 50 feet of shit coax than you will through an atu no matter what's at the other end of it.

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org I'm a small business owner and I gotta yell you: the thing everyone forgets is there are only 24 hours in a day. the more social platforms an SBO decides to cover, the more time it takes to handle all those channels, the less time there is in a day to do the actual business. FB etc aren't ideal, I agree - but I gotta choose my battles, and the priority is always gonna go to the battles that pay the bills, because thats the reality we live in. So I guess the moral of my story is before shoulding all over business owners because they don't cover all edge cases for all things, consider they've got a lot more going on than just checking socials all day.

@Brilliantcrank@mastodon.social for better or worse that kind of device is at such a commodity level that you can shop by best price and get the exact same thing as if you pay more because there's only one factory churning out the mechanism thats in all of them.

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org Good, I'm glad you're semi aware of it, but you're still not fully aware based on the rest of your reply. Let me put it to you this way: What you see as "free and easy" sitting at your desk with nothing else going on, an SBO sees as one more task to endure on top of hundreds of other daily tasks. Your one email becomes one of dozens or hundreds of emails to sift through and many of those are likely duplicates from impatient people who have also posted to the socials. Free and easy to you quickly becomes time consuming and as time is money, expensive to an SBO, particularly if they're a solo project.

@Daveosaurus @DJDarren if you go to a store that is cordoned off with no entry signs, then yes, you absolutely have to go somewhere else, you dont have any other option there. You don't like facebook. I get it. So ya go somewhere else and ya dont go to that store. You dont have to deal with FB, the SBO doesnt have to deal with you complaining, everyone's happy, problem solved.

Watching demos for newbs.

Berg presents an explainer on what c64 demos are to total newbs, if you ever wondered why old farts like me enjoy watching low res stuff on old computers, this could be a good intro for you.

He gets kind of technical but it's impossible not to.

@DJDarren Ive got 15 years on the clock saying the way I choose works better than the way you are whining about. If you're not getting good service from small businesses, it might be your entitlement that's the problem, not the business owner's choice of communication channels.

App/OS updates used to be so exciting. Now they just fill me with dread.

"How much non-sequitur AI slop will be shoe-horned into formerly useful tools, today?" has replaced "new features! hooray!".

I stumbled upon one of my dad's old profiles on a sign painters website he used to participate on. I sure miss that guy.

Figure he typed this about 28 years ago... I'd have been in my early 20s.

Of particular note: block heads are people who can drive nails into their heads without harm. Dad was big into the side show stuff.

His childhood heroes were clowns and magicians, instead of sports figures and rock stars.

@flyingsaceur@ioc.exchange By not doing it. Just mind your business, leave all the other adults to mind theirs. Worry about your family, long as they're set, there will be plenty of time to deal with "community" when and IF it's needed. or to put it another way: most people cannot work a debit card reader successfully on the first try from one hour to the next. They for sure are not going to remember how to use an ht, let alone remember to charge it, leading up to whatever big emergency you're fantasizing about hams saving the day in.

@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz @DJDarren@mendeddrum.org I use an email list to reach my customers, primarily and people bitch about that too. I'm not defending facebook use itself or in particular. My point, every time I've responded to this thread, is that business owners have better things to do than spend several hours per day trying to cover every single communications channel, niche or mainstream in a pointless effort to appease everyone everywhere. think of it this way: If you want to visit a business in person at their physical location, you have to go to them whereever that location happens to be. They aren't bringing the building to you. So do that digitally, too.
