As #BEV driver I look incredulously at the news and the mania around increasing petrol prices.
And I can’t even begin to gauge the depths of corruption of the german government NOT to take this opportunity by the horns of pushing regenerative energy roadmaps to their maximum.
Corruption
* kills
* blunts the mind
* stifles our ability to compete in future markets.
Interesting discussions today about beauty, utility and artfulness in and of code. Most all of it is true.
As in paintings, music or any other artform, as in engineering and science, we have off the shelf stuff, for masses. Cheap, mediocre and often sufficient. We also have the special stuff, skilled, artesanal, individual, special.
We have the art in maintenance and we do also have maintenance in art.
You only leave the realm of truthfulness if you claim that your specific viewpoint is the only valid one.
Any hot take is exactly that if it fails to acknowledge the spectrum it is addressing.

@jasongorman the median outcome is not that interesting, as we have stuff like the WhatsApp original implementation, maintained by a few dozen engineers on one end and spectacular software failures on multi-million government contracts on the other end.

But regarding the coding, I also hope for smaller models more focused on code following good practices and modern idioms, trained woth code deemed good. A company like Meta should have the resources to tackle this.

Doing some transcoding jobs against Friends episodes on my Macbook Air M2. It is now cozy warm. The first job in the queue was finished in 4:30 minutes. The current jobs are in the 6 minute region :)
I'm having a hard time understanding why letting an LLM do all the work item, create branch push and create PR dance for me makes me dumber. Kinda love this shit for those chores.
