over 100 follower already! thank you all. The testing of the open beta is running well! there are some easier fixable bugs, and some which are a bit more complex. we are on it to give you an even better experience. if you know people who should try fediway share our idea! #mastodon #opensource #fediverse #fediway #opensocialweb

@haverholm@radikal.social @PaulaToThePeople@climatejustice.social Really appreciate the flag. Fediway is a discovery feed, not a bridge, we are building on #FASP by mastodon and existing bridges. We don't push content between protocols. We only process publicly addressed content and check indexable/discoverable flags. If that line read as dismissive of consent, that's worth hearing, wasn't the intent. DMs open if you want to talk specifics. :)

6/X The #algorithm follows of a multi-stage pipeline that consists of the following main stages. 1️⃣ Sourcing: ~1000 Posts are fetched from various sources. 2️⃣ Ranking: Candidates are ranked by a machine learning model. 3️⃣ Sampling: Lastly, heuristics are applied to diversify #recommendations

3/X “But there are algorithmic feeds for Mastodon?” — Yes, great tools exist, for example: ➡️ #BYOTA by @mala@fosstodon.org ➡️ #FediView by @adamghill@indieweb.social ➡️ #Fedialgo by @pkreissel@volksverpetzer.social .. but most are client-side. They can rerank your existing timeline, but can't make #recommendations from outside your follower bubble.

5/X #Fediway is implemented as server-side service that shift the complexity of recommendation logic from the user to the platform itself. 👉 The goal: advanced content discovery that actually competes with large platforms, without sacrificing #dataprivacy. #OpenSource #Mastodon #FediDev

We're building Fediway ✨ - for you & not on assumptions. So, if you create on Mastodon please chat with us on what works? What's frustrating or missing?,.. Let's have a digital coffee on that ☕ & be part of creating a social web for everyone 🫶 Reach out to us 💬 #Fediverse #Mastodon #SocialMedia

4/X Client-side #algorithms mean: ❌ No real improvement to content discovery across the #Fediverse. ❌ Interesting content from smaller accounts may never reach you. They simply rearrange whats already in your reach. We need server-side #recommendations to actually distribute content effectively.

RE: @jaz@toot.wales

@Mastodon@mastodon.social is great—social media should be built collaboratively, not controlled by a few.

That’s why we’re building #Fediway: algorithms for Mastodon, giving users the choice if and how they want to use them.

Decentralization means freedom—let’s keep it that way! 🚀

2/X Thats why we are building Fediway — not as a way to dictate which algorithm a platform should use, but as a powerful framework that lets you build your own feed #algorithms for your #Mastodon instance. 👉 https://github.com/fediway/fediway #Fediway #OpenSource #Mastodon #FediDev #Fediverse
