@dgoldsmith the worst part is someone is going to see this and think they should create a startup that eventually makes portable oxygen fashionable and/or begins development on oxygenated air flow systems for the ultra wealthy in their homes and businesses.
I fear the root cause is never going to be fixed in our lifetime and it’s already reached runaway, but there was a lot of good data in that paper.
I’m just gonna say it.
I think the only truly happy people on Fedi are catgirls.

People are absolutely unhinged around these topics on this platform, I’m getting the best information about emergent research on LinkedIn right now which says a lot about how absolutely garbage the discourse is.

I know there was a ton of (public) research about swarms years ago and that tells me privately things have been going on even longer, but it is curious we haven’t to my knowledge seen them in use.

If this technology launched with the 2025 versions of the product vs 2023 there would be a lot less very smart people being willfully ignorant.
I don’t say this as a whole hearted blind endorsement, but nevertheless I believe it to be true.

@jimbob@aus.social I’ve moved the opposite direction recently and believe that to truly succeed in an advanced field where the technology is leveraged you need to fully understand it.
If your field is technology based then that understanding should be nearly to the level of actual from-scratch implementation, not that you’d have the hours or finances to do it but the evaluation skills.
I recognize I am a far outlier in this opinion and most people do not want to learn masters degree+ level statistics.

Cost control is an issue and there will be an equilibrium.
Everyone hoping it will change the world especially with agents is going to be disappointed, but so is everyone who thinks it’s just going to go away.
I wish we had more rationally held views across the board but that doesn’t promote dopamine

Even recent adversarial attacks against Meta work better being “nicer” to the model.
None of this is to ascribe sentience or self awareness to something mechanistic but there is a huge gap between what people think is going on and what actually is.
Interpretability IS a problem and it has measurably changed since that article was published last year.
It is, however, absolutely insane and rolling out black boxes was foolish.

@optilude@techhub.social you probably know this, but just in case you don’t the Ox has an RCA (yes, really) jack inside tha acts an an aux input and can take line level signals.
It works very well and it’s pretty easy to access once the cover is off (and then reattached).
I use it for speaker modeling for amp sims that dont have a power amp :).

The input volume is not adjustable and it is a little bit quieter than amplified speaker but there doesn’t seem to be increased noise floor. I meant to drill and mount a jack but I just left a conversion cable snaking out of the case lol.
