@psc@mastodon.social he’s not wrong though 😄 I’d say at least 1 of my top 5 coldest moments have been in your city. Many talk about humidity wrt the heat, but it has just as much impact on cold, or at least how it’s perceived. Or so I’ve found, anyway.
With every recent tech bro hype there’s always this emphasis on how you’ll be “left behind” if you don’t invest in their ideas. And each time I’m thinking “YES, please leave me the fuck behind!”. I should have been left behind like three times by now, and still they keep coming back? Can’t even follow up on their threats like normal sociopaths. Pathetic.

Swedish tobacco companies tried to promote the use of snus across the EU and the US for decades only to be met with regulation to ban it, despite being a much better alternative to smoking. It wasn’t until they made both the product, the boxes and the name be ”white tobacco” that it finally became the billion dollar industry they had hoped for. Should have known all along that the only way to success here starts with being white.
I have seen my fair share of weird shit at dive bars in my life. But a psychotic-looking man prancing around with a cat in his backpack? That was a first.
The selective environmentalism of hotels will never cease to amaze me. They’ll go to great lengths to make you feel terrible about wanting a clean towel, or aggressively lecture you with little notes about the environmental impact of cleaning scattered around a hotel. You’d think they’d scold you for fucking FLYING halfway across the planet to get there in the first place!? But no, somehow their concern always ends just there?

I’ve been using the Ivory app on iOS for Mastodon for a few years now. It’s good! But it also feels mostly the same now as it did then, for better or worse. Haven’t really looked into the alternatives since then. Anything I should check out?
(I use Elk on the desktop and I feel leas inclined to switch there, but by all means, if something fun happened in that space I’ve almost certainly missed it, so don’t be shy)

@tmcfarlane@toot.community I honestly have no idea what the correlation between “white tobacco” and lip cancer looks like. But at least with traditional snus, it’s negligible. Not saying it’s good for anyone! It’s a drug after all. But put next to smoking it’d look like fucking healthcare.

@patriksvensson@mstdn.social possibly, although it makes sense to me how referencing something wrapped in a promise/future would imply having to wait for that to be possible. But OTOH I’ve avoided whole languages just for the async/await model/syntax, so I guess I’m not the best judge of that 😄

@RickD_Card@socialbc.ca yeah, mobile Safari has a “hide distracting element” function (on top of ad blockers I always found to work so-so on mobile) … but I either tend to forget it’s there or the site has so many ads that it feels like a chore to fix manually
