@marcoarment@mastodon.social @kevinrenskers@hachyderm.io Tim Cook's legacy was moving manufacturing jobs from the US to China, teaching them how to make complex products at scale, and how to install suicide nets. We should be glad he’s "destroying it”.
Oh, wait…

@nolan@toot.cafe My experience with this is it depends on how the developer viewed what they did.
For some it was a craft as you describe it. Finding the perfect solution.
For others, it was about delivering a product vision. Solving customer problems.
The latter (like me) is less bothered by this future we now live in. Because it was never about the code. It was about the result.
I used to type in listings from magazines. I didn’t enjoy it. I just wanted to play the game.

@jamesthomson Sadly, local AI models will still come for many of these roles. Replaced by a couple of Nvidia cards in a cupboard, with only the electricity to pay for.

@gregr@mastodon.social @nolan@toot.cafe I had exactly the same thought. People don’t believe it. Or they have a bad experience and assume the rest of us are making it up.
It does depend on what tools you use. What language you code in. Your skill in prompting.
Using a sewing machine is still a skill.

@justkwin@toot.community Isn’t it that we generate 3x more than we use now? The problem is that it means electricity in Scotland should be really cheap, but we don’t have regional pricing. But also the poor UK grid means that Scottish power would be really expensive in London.
Maybe once we get past the 25 year renewable deals.
