Un "kit" de matériaux de soutien anti #IA avec des super propositions et expérimentations #pagedjs #imagemagick #asciiart + autres devrait montrer sa tête :)

I'm in love with the #HaikuOS "tab stacking" GUI - halfway between a tiling window manager's tabbed view and the ease of floating windows.
You can snap windows together and make their title bars behave like tabs.
And I dig the neo-retro BeOS look!

Thanks a big lot for chipping in! Context is this article I wrote (pardon my French) on Bulgarian typography, with the few sources I could get my hands on. Early Cyrillic prints in Church Slavonic by Szweipolt Fiol (1490s?) and printers in Vilnius (in Ukrainian) seem to use an Ustav style (Cyrillic uncial-like) old Cyr script. Peter I's Russian reforms seem not to trickle down to BG, and in 1838 the ¿first? BG press in Thessaloniki still uses Ustav characters. 1/2

Was moveable type of the renaissance to early modernity era generally sold independently to various presses (printers)?
Or did the type usually circulate with its press (machine)?
Were long-distance international sales common?
I'm trying to bring more context to an article on Cyrillic type but am stuck for the lack of information of who got the typefaces from who, and where.

#Typst is incredibly powerful and makes for a beautiful result but it took me about an hour to understand how I can align the page numbering either left or right for even and odd pages respectively.
It's a completely different way of "scripting" than I've ever dealt with before.
Do folks in the publication design community think it's an interesting program to try out?

Hey! Chipping in to say this particular Cyrillic Uncial style has existed in Romanian scriptures even since the local Church wrote in Cyrillic!
It's not far-fetched that the style might have bled through even after the official 1862 Latin adoption.
The floral motif, though, is definitely a stylistic choice not part of the usual "canon" (if exists).
Btw I invite you to check Romanian printed matter from the 19h century, very interesting amalgamations of Cyrillic-Latin :D

Until mid 19th C. there's Bulgarian books being printed with Transitional Russian type in Ukraine (big BG diaspora region), but they lack essential BG glyphs/graphemes substituted with others. Begs the question of how Ustav-style characters circulated to BG territory in the mid-19th century, from whom, or if they were custom-made etc..
Bulg. press was largely hidden and undocumented sadly bc of Ottoman rule & prevalence of Greek for orthodox texts, facing backlash.

P.S. Scans of printed Cyrillic Ustav texts show relative differences in subtle letter shapes across different regions all while keeping the general "skeleton" of the letters consistent, so I'm betting on type being cast in-house rather than sold.
But context on the market of press machinss and metal type in the Cyrillic region could help with getting a general idea of how it evolved.

#TIL there are efforts to port #FontForge to #GTK3 .
If you have skills in that area, please help out. FontForge's custom UI kit is... ancient, 25 years old.
A #GTK interface could not only modernize the look, but also make it easier to implement a modular design and personalize the interface for specific uses.

Edit: actually I'm wondering to what extent a LinkedIn regular's personal website is scalability-optimized. Perhaps the question is already filled with assumptions.
I have the feeling that some of the new flashy Nu-Gnome apps missed something crucial. A lot are just a GUI wrapper on one small command. The UNIX philosophy of doing one thing and doing it well applies to command-line programs, less so to standalone GUIs.
Its force was about bridging 10 commands together, not having 20 icons that do tiny things pollute your app drawer.
These apps are beautiful and intuitive but they're really heavy for what they bring. But wait! There's more.

Thank you!! I'm fairly sure a typeface market existed in Russian Emp. during Peter the Great's time, easier to imagine considering his script reform.
Struggling to find sources on Cyrillic Uncials and Slavonic & later Bulgarian type though. Almost seems like the Ustav uncial style letterforms barely varied across generations.
Might you have more insight on where I should dig for info on Cyrillic type & Eastern European printing?

@alainmi11 La vaste majorité des utilisateur·ices d'ordis ont toujours "peur" face à Linux, faute de chance de s'y frotter davantage, peut-être justement pcq il a été digéré en silence par les grandes boites (dont il dépend aussi de manière croissante).
L'industrie tech sait bien que Linux a "gagné", mais quel bénéfice en tirent celleux au bout, aux "terminaux" du réseau numérique?
Il n'y a toujours pas de "Year of the Linux desktop", et je la vois difficilement venir...

Très content de l'algo de justification de Typst. On peut contrôler l'élasticité de l'interlettrage et des espaces, créer des retours forcés en choisissant si la ligne du haut reste justifiée, faire des espaces insécables, etc.
La seule chose que je ne vois pas est une limitation automatique des veuves et des orphelines. On se retrouve trop souvent avec le premier / dernier mot d'une phrase tout seul à la ligne.

Yes they're "UTF-8 characters" but are they textual in a literary sense? I suppose there's a difference between them and emoji "reactions" on posts
