Welcome to our publication launch at @imal@tldr.nettime.org on the 25th of march where we want to share with you some of our findings of the Otherworldly communications research trajectory!

It was compiled during a three day sprint by Constant’s team, guided by graphic designer Sarah Magnan, and printed at chez rosi in Brussels* using the software Octomode by Creative Crowds.

During the event, we’ll have live contributions and installations by some of the artists that accompanied us in this trajectory.

Join us on 21st of May for a workshop and a vernissage by Quantics Antics of the Borderless Underground (QABU), a fictional exploration of resistance from humans and more-than-humans to the (in)visible forms of violence that we call ’borders’.

Borders are everywhere, grow in all directions, and so does resistance, spreading through city networks beneath our feet, hidden in plain sight, and materialzing in the most unexpected creatures and places.

Through drawings and field recordings, this installation in Constant’s window depicts possible elsewheres and elsewhens to denounce the colonial legacy of border narratives and instigate the social imagination against technofascism. Underground routes, mutant moles, and journeys across queer spacetime situate QABU and its authors within the deadly fiction of borders, made of surveillance, incarcerations, and displacements of discriminated-against bodies. Far from being an escape from structural inequality and systemic oppression, QABU’s imaginary is a call for using existing tools to break the continuum of violence collectively.

Gathering with the tricksters

Constant invites the excellent @clararigo@hci.social for tinkering with DIY sensors and Zombitron running on old smartphones to make music together.
We will work on two levels
– code: programming esp32’s to interact with Zombitron ( via the network and the browsers of the phones)
– tinkering: make and finetune DIY sensors, like experimental buttons, to be able to connect to Zombitron

Welcome on Tuesday 7 october @ rue du fort 5A, 1060 st-gilles from 6pm on for the vernissage where Anaïs Berck created a data work displaying all the observations, along with the phases of the moon and the seasons.

When does a tree’s sap start flowing, when do trees get to work in the morning, when does their trunk grow most? During one year, the artists of the Anaïs Berck collective measured the movements of three Scots Pines in three nature reserves in Flanders, with the intention of designing tree clocks. They recorded their movements using sensors that measure the expansion and contraction of the trunk, CO2 absorption, air temperature and humidity, and sunlight.

We are joined by Biyi Zhu who will introduce slow-simmered Cantonese herbal soup traditions through a shared commitment to speculative, intersectional, and embodied technologies of care. Soup-making becomes both a medium and a method, which is a living technology that carries kinship, memory, metabolic and cultural knowledge. We will engage in a practice that resists extractive logics of efficiency, reclaiming domestic and sensory processes as rich sites of knowledge-making.
