@tante@tldr.nettime.org I know a jam packed dusty book store run by an old hermit who, I am certain, is singlehandedly saving a warehouse filled with the rarest collection of hand xeroxed church recipe books and ancient high school year books. We are just one discarded cigarette butt away from losing generations worth of innovation into green marshmallow jello and creative small town youth hyginx.
Silent, and extremely foggy out today. Where did the world go?
Ever lost your phone and been at the mercy of strangers? Yesterday my spouse dropped me off at the airport. My phone had slipped out of my back pocket on the passengers seat, but I didn't find out until I was in the ticketing line. The Delta agent gave me paper tickets, but couldn't offer use of a phone. There are no pay phones in the airport any more. A kind stranger called my wife 4 times, but it was early morning and her phone was still on silent. I couldn't call a cab or an Uber on my own to try to catch up with my spouse. I found a security guard who kindly let me use his old flip phone. Called her several more times, no answer. Finally, I called my own phone, and let it ring and ring, and she finally answered. 15 minutes later, got my phone and an extra hug and kiss.
For the rest of the day, I was running on adrenaline.

Our home #internet service has gone out during this snow storm. I still have mobile. But I also have offline access to #Wikipedia and #ProjectGutenberg on my laptop, thanks to @kiwix@mastodon.social !
Last month I downloaded a 110GB zim file and repurposed a Raspberry pi to serve this content offline.
Its great that these priceless repositories of knowledge are free to access and use, and made available to self host. For me, this just a fun project, but for an offline school in an under developed country, this same tech can help kids learn or provide access to knowledge in an emergency.

I am a subscription contributor to the #Mastodon project, but even I have to wonder why they bother expending the effort building features like collections and quote posts, when in practice, they are not useful.

@8bit_PK@universeodon.com I removed 2 Mastodon apps. Then I went through the check point, they scanned my face, a big green check mark appeared on the screen, and the CBP lady said "Welcome back, sir."
That was it.
I download and reinstalled the Mastodon and it picked up right where I left it. I didn't even have to log back in, which concerns me a little. The other app, Fedilab, I do have to log into, and its giving me a little grief.

@8bit_PK@universeodon.com yes, I presume that removing the app doesn't remove your account credentials. In my case it was convenient, but as a rule I like apps to totally uninstall.
