@Tutanota@mastodon.social Yes AI but only locally. The Agentic concept is intriguing to me but I want it ALL running on my own hardware. The Data Centre sprawl, the inability to buy normal servers for what was normal market rates, the destruction of rare books, the bad implementations as customer service bots just ich.

  • Assuming a time capsule of 80 years, what aspects of computing hardware and software would be necessary to keep a device running without glitching out and failing and still be understandable 80 years from now?
  • Looking at how data was first stored in the 1940’s & 1950’s vs what we read now, what can be learned about storing data moving forward into the future? Wouldn’t a perma computer use those formats natively?
  • How/Why do we trust the output of a future system?

@ben@werd.social As someone who studied organizational development in college, the irony is astounding. I love working in tech and the idea of a personal assistant that works at machine speed is alluring (though I want it running on my own or at least a coop’s hardware), but ultimately life is not about tech, it’s not about money, it’s about people. The faster we realize that again the better.

@jonah@mastodon.neat.computer My dog seems genuinely frustrated that I am not paying attention to him, when I am right there. He’s been known to paw my arm holding my phone etc.

@andros@activity.andros.dev I use Möbius Sync to run Syncthing on iOS so I don’t have to worry about public facing servers. Any chance Dotdenote could open files from a local folder on the iPhone similar to what 1Writer does?

@petrabrandstrom Sometimes children see the monsters we adults do not. Also, sometimes what seem like monsters now is actually preparation for what comes next.

@stefano The most recent alarm and camera system I dealt with required a static IP for the client system to authenticate to their cloud. They owned the hardware on both sides of the connection but still needed a static IP. ;<(

@saramg@fosstodon.org Before “AI” came on the scene, I was watching the “NoCode” movement that was pushing for building tools customized for a business. The biggest issue? People not understanding their business, and thus automating barely controlled chaos at machine speed. As much as I think “AI” may have some benefits in terms of analyzing datasets, and manipulating text interactively, I don’t see how it will suddenly understand business processes and NOT automate chaos at machine speed.

Anyone in the @publii@mastodon.social ecosystem thought about developing an #indieweb plugin to implement webmentions, etc?

It’s time to know where your data lives and how or who backs it up.

@JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange Does your bank/financial institution offer any sort of automatic savings deposit tool? Presumably you have online banking turned on for your checking account but maybe ask if it’s possible to turn it off for the savings account? If your income and expenses are stable it might be possible to schedule an automatic transfer into another bank/financial institution without online banking setup. Nothing to pop if a login doesn’t exist.
