New instance, new #introduction.
Hello everyone! I’m a meteorologist working at a company that launches #weather balloons. On Mastodon, I toot about #weather, mostly #BCstorm, #WAwx, and #ORwx.
I recently moved from White Rock, B.C. to Hermiston, Oregon and am excited to be back in Oregon and closer to family. Some #geology tidbits will be thrown in along with my thoughts on rural life, family life, and my #LDS faith.
I am an avid geocacher with 3119 finds. I enjoy sharing my exploration and also stats on my #geocache finds.
I will work on configuring profile verification soon.

My SIL is at a church youth camp near Mount Hood and sent me a video of her hiking through a thunderstorm in the woods yesterday. I inquired further and she told me the leaders didn't know it was going to storm.
I reached out to our bishop and we're going to put together a workshop so that the adult leaders can be empowered to know what to look for to avoid this in the future rather than relying on a simple phone weather app.
I don't fault people for not knowing, but now that I know it's a problem I feel like it's my responsibility as a meteorologist to help improve the situation. For now they're proactively texting me asking for updates through the end of the campout. Glad to see they're doing what they can.

Tonight is our annual stake* pool party. Usual bring it the last weekend of August is a slam dunk but it’s quite cool and there’s only a couple dozen attendees instead of the normal 150 or so.
Current weather: Partly cloudy, 23°C, 20 km/h wind
*A stake in the LDS church is a group of congregations. The Hermiston stake covers Hermiston, Umatilla, Boardman, and outlying communities like Fossil and Heppner.

All right friends, I need help identifying this plant. I’m pulling weeds in my #garden and want to know if it’s worth keeping. The fruit are about half an inch in diameter, as are the post-bloom flowers.
I especially want to know if it’s edible and, if so, what the taste is like. I know it’s in the nightshade family but I want to be more specific.
