On an *entirely* unrelated matter, please meet Kung Fu the Panda Cory 🐼. I haven’t had chance to think of suitable punny names for the rest of the school yet.
Looks like someone has created a bot (@Danielc_olquitt@mastodon.social), with the same name and a very similar handle to my own, on @Mastodon@mastodon.social that does nothing else other than boost my toots. It’s a bit weird. Has anyone else noticed similar things happening? #mastodon #mastoadmin
Sadly, I think it’s time to retire my #selfhosted #mail server. It’s been an interesting ride and I’ve learnt a lot. Unfortunately, I somehow managed to mess up my LUKS and I end up having to manually recover from initramfs after every kernel patch/upgrade, no matter how many times I fix it. Even leaving that aside, pretty soon, I’d need to migrate to a new server stack. On top of everything, the recent increases in VPS costs means it’s difficult to justify #selfhosting as opposed to a managed solution — especially when I factor in the cost of my time. Time to migrate 25 years of emails…

Interesting Liverpool-led project from Juri Smirnov and colleagues using #AI for molecular discovery across #ParticlePhysics, cancer-cell inhibition, and #AntimicrobialScience.
The key feature is the closed loop: predictions tested experimentally, results fed back into the next round. AI in the scientific workflow, not stuck on at the end as a fashionable label. This is precisely the type of #interdisciplinary work at which #maths excels.

Daughter’s football team won 5–0, which was excellent, but better still they’ve started passing properly and playing actual football. Dangerous stuff.
The panda corys have settled in and are patrolling the tank like tiny moustachioed inspectors.
Also finished A Darkness Returns. Lovely to see familiar faces again. Less lovely: remembering I now have to wait for the next one.
