I'm going to be annoyingly repetitive about this blossom as it's the very first one for this small crepe myrtle which we've been growing in a pot in front of our home for 4 years. Next year I promise I will feed it more early, and perhaps it will grow a bit and put forth TWO blossom clusters! #BloomScrolling

Good #Tuesday morning everyone, it's settling in to another hot week here in Western North Carolina. Woke too early, we're planning a hike this morning but can't begin until a much later hour. Not as much rain in the forecast as we'd hoped, or been forecast, as those now seem more like guidelines... #NCwx

Unsettled night, so up late. As soon as I open the front door (a glass storm door still in place) there was a *lot* of cawing. The #crows are a bit more relaxed around me, in addition to training me to feed them anytime I get up in the morning, but still won't stay while I toss the peanuts at the end of the drive. Unfortunately 2 squirrels have also figured this out. Six #crows this morning, including the original Bold and a larger one I'm calling Patch as I can see something on its chest that is lighter. Will see if he's just moulting. So far the neighbors haven't complained. 😬 Third year, lots more friends. I'm so glad to see them every morning. #corvids

We sometimes take a backroad between Saluda, NC and Tryon, NC called NC 176. It's a wiggly, rather mountain road next to the North Pacolet River. In 2024 when #Helene devastated so much of Western North Carolina, a big stretch of this road was closed. It's been 2 years, and we were just in the area, and wondered what is going on with recovery. 6AM look at the Purple Air smoke map shows that the upper midwest has improved a little as the smoke moves along the diagonal down toward DE and the east coast. The area in Oregon and WA is also drifting down towards northern California. It seems the Feds have told our HCA-owned hospital system, Mission Health, not to talk to the press about all the problems at their hospital. I wonder who HCA contributed to? We just had about an hour of very heavy rain, reaching 3"/hour rate for a good 20 minutes. Most of the new woodland garden held up well, but MAN that was a lot of rain at once. No wonder we were under a flood watch, hoping no one at more risk than us had any problems. #NCwx #Asheville #Rain
