So great catching @me@joshuastrobl.social briefly at @jolla@techhub.social - it's been too long!
Watch his space... I think there's gonna be some cool stuff coming! I can't wait 😆
Early flights: meh... But catching these from your hotel room at 10pm and 4am: worth it once in a while.
Friends Don't Let Friends Use #Ollama https://sleepingrobots.com/dreams/stop-using-ollama/
For running LLMs locally use llama.cpp with its built-in web UI, or try #ramalama https://ramalama.ai/
It was nice to relax and bbq with a lake view and company of good friends. Got a bit chilly towards the end (5°C with winds picking up) but a welcome break after a hectic week. Simple pleasures.
A case of FOMO as I browse through exciting #RHSummit posts this week. I find solace in having the opportunity to attend 7 summits previously, and following along this year with Keynotes & Recaps on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbMP1JcGBmSG1F0kPUCSFuKaQEfJd71TT
I miss the connections with people though...
It's painstaking work going through various #percussion parts mapping them out for a limited number of players, taking into account positioning of instruments, transitions, player strengths, and more. Is there a tool to automate this? Then again the process acquaints me with the pieces much better 🎶🎵
A lovely and thoughtful Speaker gift from #OpenSearchCon China - a seal with the #OpenSearch logo.
I've no idea where my own name seal went, misplaced it decades ago. Maybe I can get a new one sometime :)
Train station experience in #Shanghai so different from europe. ID + security check just to enter the station (special line for foreigners), can't use self service ticket machines without local ID, another special lane for passports when entering the platform. I know the language and still felt lost
Here's the presentation @philnash@mastodon.social and I gave at #OpenSearchCon China about integrating #Docling with OpenSearch for advanced RAG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqUJVGyI5to
Our slides are available on sessionize: https://opensearchcon-china-2026.sessionize.com/session/1115191
Thanks to @OpenSearchProject@fosstodon.org, @krisfreedain@fosstodon.org for having us in #Shanghai!
Build AI-Ready Search: Integrating Docling with OpenSearch for Advanced RA... Carol Chen & Phil Nash
So I actually watched both movies #AnotherEarth and #Melancholia (found old tweets as evidence 😆). Somehow I remembered the former much better. Was ruminating over them this past week when I came across the #EveryoneDies audiobook - planning to listen to it on the long flight to Shanghai. Yeah, one of those moods..
Tomorrow (Feb 4) at #CfgMgmtCamp in Ghent, Ming and I will run a workshop on #Docling at 14:00 in B.1.031 - https://cfp.cfgmgmtcamp.org/ghent2026/talk/9CV7CY/
Join us! @cfgmgmtcamp@fosstodon.org
Another not to miss at #RHSummit - plenary session led by Mike McGrath on Community Day (today!!) kicking off Open Platforms track. Hear about the latest and coolest developments in bootc, Project Hummingbird, and RISC-V! https://events.experiences.redhat.com/widget/redhat/sum26/SessionCatalog2026/session/1772570127352001Vwpw
Got a portable monitor for the upcoming #PyTorchCon Europe. Easy connection with Thinkpad X1C, MacBook pro, pixel 9, ipad mini etc. with one cable. Multiple backup options if something fails! Although ipad will be last option unless I can calibrate it. #DPaltMode
