My wife says I shouldn't be allowed to buy my own clothes, but I don't see the problem.

@researchfairy@scholar.social you can't work for Big Pharma! They do evil things like... develop vaccines so people don't get sick! Manufacture medicines that cure people or at least help them cope with all kinds of real problems! 😡

@GustavinoBevilacqua when I was a kid I occasionally got some pocket money by collecting trolleys that were left about with 20c pieces in them. These days I only know of Aldi having coin deposits. And I have no idea what the value is.

@vie@hachyderm.io @jason could also be that they got into it because of joy but it's been sucked right out of them, so now they just want to get paid for not doing any work. (I haven't found much joy in my work for the last ~10 years, but I still want to do good work and not offload my thinking to a magical plagiarism machine)

@jpm@aus.social it's really sad because an ex-colleague used to include ✨ in git commit messages whenever he thought he'd done something particularly worthwhile

@pmonks@sfba.social well yeah, people who are elected obviously can't be trusted with large piles of money, but unelected billionaires obviously can - we've never seen anything bad from them in the past or present, nor can we imagine anything bad from them in the future.

@lritter@mastodon.gamedev.place @bleeptrack@vis.social all it needs is an exponentially increasing about of electricity, mostly generated from fossil fuels, and free access to all of your code without respecting its licensing

@brianvastag can confirm the brake pads in my Polestar were rusting faster than they were wearing down, because they saw basically zero use.

This video is a pretty good summary of why the housing market is so bad, whether renting or buying, and why the major parties won't fix it, and in fact don't want to. #auspol

@d1@autistics.life @FrankauLux@polyglot.city @ShaulaEvans@zirk.us at the risk of offending everyone by telling them something they already know, it's shashin ("photo") and -ki ("machine"). Although I'd never actually come across that word, only ever kamera.

@furocchi@hessen.social didn't they already try that after WW2 and it went horrendously badly? But that was a US initiative IIRC; maybe a native Japanese one would be better received (although I doubt it'd be a popular proposal)

@vic@toot.wales I had exactly the same thought when Netanyahu gave the speech after bombing the nuclear facilities, effectively calling on Iranians to overthrow their evil government.
