@NathanMurdock@mastodon.social @QasimRashid@mastodon.social I'm pretty sure that the New York City Council, where 4 of the 5 boroughs are overwhelming Democratic, are going to be supportive of this, because that's 46 out of 51 seats. And given that both of Mamdami's candidates in NY House Democratic primaries won, it seems like he had a lot of support. Brad Lander beat a incumbent backed by dark money and a pro Israel PAC. Claire Valdez, also endorsed by Madami, won her primary. Both are safe Democratic seats in NYC.

They also forgot:

  • @GIMP (Do I need to mention why?)
  • @libreoffice (An office suite without AI BS.)
  • @ONLYOFFICE (Another office suite for cloud hosting.)
  • @zrythm@mastodon.social (Another great up and coming FOSS DAW. Mentioned but this is the account.)
  • Scribus (https://www.scribus.net) (A desktop publishing app.) An honorable mention to the commerical DAW Bitwig Studio, not FOSS, but has an official Linux native flatpak, which is more than a certain video editor which is supposedly also "Linux native".

@TheEvilSkeleton Why are so many of these FOSS developers against the true spirit of FOSS? I really don't get it! FOSS is SUPPOSED to be a POLITICAL statement against propietary software. Saying "FOSS iSn'T pOlItIcAl" is 100% wrong. So is that nutjob developer. If he won't apologize for his posts, I'm seriously considering to stop recommending Zrythm as long as he's part of it.

@thomholwerda@exquisite.social Even if you think it might be done for, we all know that most politicians don't think so. And I've been voting against this cancer since I turned 18, and I've even attended some (peaceful) protests near me against this regime. Believe me, I want things to get better for everybody, except for the cancerous traitors. Then again, this had been going on since the 1980s...

Hey Nick @thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social an update on the OnlyOffice drama; it seems like the "additional terms/restrictions" that they added on top of the GNU AGPL 3 can be ignored by other downstream projects using the code.

Obviously, this does mean that they don't have to allow the use of their trademarks, but it asserts what the copyleft licenses SHOULD be doing: Keeping FOSS FOSS.

@joewo He's right. 100% right. It's the same type of people who would have opposed repealing the Jim Crow laws back in the 1950s and 1960s that never went away since a certain former actor was elected in 1980. That basically caused a lot of the issues people are still facing. They just, until 2016 or so, put it much more "formally" instead of being outright racist. Need I remind people of this racist term? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_queen

@XeroLinux@fosstodon.org the problem is that they still have a lot of ground in the FOSS news space. That of course will still lead to FUD. And if I'm being honest, it's starting to border on libel imo.

@qlp @frameworkcomputer Nope. That didn't come (apart from now having G-Sync support). It did get an AMD Zen 5 mainboard option along with an RTX 5070 graphics module and a 240 watt power brick! I do wish AMD actually released an RDNA 4 laptop dGPU, but it looks like it's just Nvidia this generation, which is not great. And only options with 8 GB of vRAM, which isn't great for gaming at 1440p...

@paulisci@mstdn.ca PCGamer normally is a censorship hole, and has made very bad takes before (and censored comments critical of them, even ones that respectfully disagree with them) but in this case, I concur or maybe agree with them. It's the cycle of Big Tech enshittification. I'm so glad the original release of Windows 11 was so bad it got me off of Windows for good.

@frameworkcomputer I came into the event having low hopes after the previous event and seeing no real news on the 16 inch model. I am very glad to see the 16 inch wasn't forgotten and that Nvidia is now on board! I do wish somehow you guys could have gotten more vRAM because above gaming above 1920×1080 with just 8 GB of vRAM isn't looking very good...

@pfanzola @hacknorris Unfortunately, I have had issues with Nobara, Fedora, and Kubuntu. The former two had bad Nvidia driver support. Kubuntu is often out of date and hasn't been very stable in my experience. I worry about people going from the extremely ancient (by 2026 standards) 24.04 to 26.04.

@tuomas_h@mastodon.social Honestly, if Steve Jobs saw the Apple of today and what macOS Big Sur and onward looked like, he would fire nearly every person in charge of that team. Like, the icons looked like crap, the padding was enormous, and the settings app in Ventura looks like an iOS app ported badly from the iPad or iPhone.

@venelles @ailepet I don't think you know are aware that XLibre actually has just been breaking crap like the Nvidia drivers, and not actually improving things. Did they fix multi monitor support? Did they improve on X11's lack of security? Did they improve on latency? No. They haven't. Short of a full on brand new X11 server, there's no saving X11.
