Well, here's a very quick selfie, kinda wonky donkey, out near the gallery today. Behold my purple, green and grey (the grey is my fabulous natural colour, LoL!) hairs! Brought to you at enorrrrmous expense! Screw it. Gonna have a bit of fun. I'll go back to grey soon enough.

Microwave oven carked it on the weekend, so we got a new microwave. But it was smaller than previous one (fiiiiiine) and didn't fit the microwave rice cooker (which I hated anyway) so after my very late mental health appointment today, we went shopping and bought a separate rice cooker. Smarter than I was going to buy, but it seduced me with promised auto settings for brown rice, crispy rice, sushi rice, steam, porridge, as well as white rice. Still not all that expensive, no Powerball win as yet! Looking forward to seeing how I go with that. Also had to buy a new toaster, after an unfortunate accident on the weekend involving lack of bench space, and someone setting the toaster on the stove, then turning on a burner underneath the toaster rather than the burner for the grill, when they wanted grilled cheese on toast. The burnt plastic smell was spectacular. That would be one word for it, anyway. I'll leave you to imagine others. I'm off cheese on toast for a while, oddly enough.

Arvo, Toots. Home from the second eye specialist down in Brisbane today. Step 1: dear optometrist, why are my less than 1 year old, very expensive multifocal glasses not working? "Oooh, that's odd ... " (I hate hearing that phrase, don't you?) Right, above my pay grade, I'm sending you to the Eye Institute in Brisbane. Step 2: 1st Eye Specialist: "Hmmmm yes. You have [ahem!] going wrong. I'd like you to come back and see my colleague. Step 3: (today) 2nd Eye Specialist: (appointment delayed, was meant to be a fortnight after 1st, ended up being 3 months later.) "Ah, you have moved from [ahem!] to [level ahem ahem!]! Here are handouts on why, and the scans up on big screens, so you can see how much worse it has become in between appointments. So here's what we can and can't do, and possible risks. But we need to monitor this. So long story short: yeah I'm going blind but at least I know? Ok. And we're breathing ... And you never know what new technology might bring.

So today my mental health nurse and I sacked each other, how's your week going?
(Captain, it's Tuesday.)

No more funding after June 30 for her position anyway. And she decided I was "over serviced" since I see a psychiatrist, psychologist, and art therapist as well.

The psychiatrist and psychologist I pay for privately. And the Art Therapy funding is always on a knife edge.

I have multiple, long term, conditions that need these supports but don't qualify me for anything like NDIS - nor would I want to take away from the increasingly small amount of funding for those who need it. I don't think I'm over serviced.

I think I'm feeling a bit shitty about getting dumped from a service which was never much use anyway, and "referred for future needs" onto a mythical "mental health hub" which still hasn't been built, funded, or guaranteed.

Anyway, just a grumble.

I'm better off than a lot of others. Got a roof over my head, even if I'm sharing it with the mice & rats for now!

Arvo, Toots. Recovery day today. Hanging Day went well at the gallery yesterday. I had to leave before we were completely done, but the hanging committee were super helpful and so experienced, they made our group's job a lot easier. I mostly sat, sorted labels, and rolled small balls of blutack for the back of the labels - being a good little dung beetle, lol! Then matching labels to works was simple and fast. Hopefully I can share some gallery photos tomorrow. Today I'm trying out a new to me roast chook recipe, brain fog hit half way through even with my tried and true method of getting all the ingredients out and ticking them off as I go. Suspect it will still be okay without that small amount of dried herbs, as there were other herbs in butter smooshed under the skin of the chook, but very annoying! Miss Rosie would like you to know that she has been out in the rain. It was wet, so she had to check all her peemail twice. Very tiring. #RosieTheRedCattleDog #DogsOfFedi

Streets around us are all blocked off so the nice train people can get the special machines that sound like groaning cellos to regrind the tracks again. They do this every so often, and then run a cute little inspection train along. Even though there have been signs warning of the closures up for weeks, we've seen grumpy bums still trying to do impossible turns to avoid the closure, and when Rosie the Red Cattle Dog was being walked this morning, there were several motorists who apparently thought they were so very big and important that the road closures didn't apply to them at all, and who tried to argue the point with the traffic controller. Dude. Don't be a dickhead all your life, ok?!

Whoops! Went to get the dinner baked potatoes out of the air fryer. Handle and whole front of the basket came off in my hand, basket irretrievably dented. Spuds salvaged. Metaphor there somewhere, but I am too tired. Just going to eat my extra crunchy potatoes and go with it.

@sister_ratched@toot.community Yes, I think the urologist is being very dismissive. "Go away, you're OLD." Dad's 87 in September, has Alzheimer's, but FFS. He's a paying patient and Mum has concerns. And apart from all that: where's the bloody dignity? But ... I'm over here, and at the moment, I have to let my brother handle it.

#ThreeGoodThings lately:

A donation of three large bags full of art materials from one of the Artists Books group on Wednesday arvo was immediately seized upon, rummaged through, and used at Art Therapy yesterday morning. Paper, wire craft mesh, beads, embroidery threads, old spools, lids, small cardboard boxes ... The joy these treasures brought.
Found a reasonably priced, second hand, single bed this arvo and got it home in the car, no problems. Himself and Rosie the Red Cattle Dog are very happy with this solution. (Separate bedrooms because reasons, not least sleep patterns incompatible.)
There's enough pea and ham soup left for dinner - I don't have to cook!

It's been a damp and drizzly day, but there was a new member at Artists Books this arvo, and another only recently joined member brought along beeswax to share. Little lumps of pure beeswax so we can strengthen our sewing threads when we sew books together. Such a joyful, thoughtful gift, to the whole group. Beeeeeeeswaxxxxx. Yup. A nice thing. @ewen@social.ewenbell.com I don't know (I shudder to think) but I do know that: 1) when I left home my Mum eventually stopped buying a kilo of cheddar a week, and 2) when my younger brother, who drank 2 litres of milk a day by himself, left home, the milko sold up. (To be fair, this was around the time milk runs stopped being a thing.) I have developed a habit of having some cheddar and rice crackers as my last small meal of the day. Nom Nom Nom!
