When a tree falls across the trail, you move the tree. When ten thousand trees fall across the trail, you move the trail! I'm glad I wasn't there to witness whatever massive avalanche caused this chaos!

Seljalandsfoss (aka, 'that waterfall you can walk behind') is one of the most-visited waterfalls in south eastern #Iceland, but a lot fewer people hike the half kilometer north to visit Gljúfrafoss in its tight chasm. You squeeze your way through that narrow crack on the left side of the first photo and end up in the chamber below/within the falls.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social I was just asked, in all seriousness, if I’d like to be the astronomer to help advocate for space-based solar power and how it could do good things for astronomy (by mounting telescopes on the back sides or something?). I was pretty unambiguous about how I wasn’t the guy. I almost sent him to you for a more pithy and four-letter comment.
#Boulder-area trail peeps: Boulder County is considering doing an alternating-use pilot study (limiting certain days to bike only or foot/horse only).
IMHO, this is a solution looking for a problem. Conflicts are rare and this is going to result in a massive decrease in number of OS visitors because no one can figure out if it’s a bike day or a foot travel day (like certain places in Jeffco).

@stux@mstdn.social For a long time, I had no trouble whatsoever with natural heights (cliffs, mountain tops), but would be very wary of tall buildings, roofs, and other human-made heights. Now I'm wary about all of them equally. Weird.
