I am not a web designer. I was, at one point, a pretty good web admin. I know mostly server back end stuff from before things like NodeJS took off. I know some PHP and CSS and I am very comfortable with a WHM Cpanel server.

I say all of this to say, when I make websites I use templates. (Usually free, some paid) and I have recently started going to all of the sites I own and manage and working to ensure they don't have google fonts. This is just another way google is tracking who is doing what when they have no business doing so.

so I implore you web people of the world, DITCH THE GOOGLE FONTS!

@deviantollam@defcon.social too many important people (read billionaires) have too much money tied up in AI being used by everyone as a mass surveillance machine to figure out how to extract as much wealth as possible from everyone so they can add it to their hoard in their underground bunkers where the have private water sources. Lizzard people are real, turns out they were actually dragons.

@cinebox @geolaw So when you have a google font encoded into your website, this is done as a CSS link in the headers of your site. When someone loads your page, their browser goes out to the fonts.google.com link in your website and says "Hey google, I am {IPADDRESS}, and {WEBSITE} told me to come here and get {font}. Google then delivers a font file and they get to know not only what person(ip and browser) visited but also what site sent them there and when. I would imaging this is pretty useful to know for a company that is selling target ads. All for the bargain basement price of hosting a font file.

Ok... So I used to use Chipolo because they had bluetooth device finders that were no in the find my iphone or android device hub. I know this means I am less likely to find a stolen thing. But they allowed me to find my keys when the kid ran off with them or the fire tv remote when it was shoved in the couch. Anyone know of a non-"find my" Bluetooth tracker/locator. Preferably with some sort of sharing so my wife can ping them with her phone too! #privacy #airtag #findmy #android #bluetooth #tracker

So I love teaching....and I know CyberSec....what it don't know is social media.

What I need right now is a way to video capture on fedora that will follow my mouse for vertical video?

So I think the biggest problem I have is I am looking for two products in one.

1. Secure/private cloud storage. Encrypted at rest but with a good sync option. https://tresorit.com/

2. A collaboration tool that will allow users with free/no account to collab on docs in a web based editor like https://cryptpad.fr/

Looking for something that does this well at the same time. bonus points for good open standards support so its easy to sync/import/backup myself

So about a week ago, I blocked youtube and reddit at my router. Social media algorithms have been a cancer on my mental health. I start watching a video on woodworking or 3D printing and end up somewhere where each video leaves me angrier and angrier.

It was strange to realize this as an addiction. But cutting it out has improved my mood and I have been getting more projects done around the house.

All of this by blocking social media sites I only use in browser when not logged in!

OK so someone talk me down here.. Can I build a custom live distro with just the apps I use and use something like a self hosted sh file that I can pipe to shell to setup my customization and download dotfiles and have a ephemeral OS that I can be at "home" with any x64 PC with an internet connection? How feasible is this? anyone doing somehting similar. I mean I web browse, email and write some code..

To be clear, I am an American, currently living through a fascist take over powered by techno-oligarchy, due to the fact that my countries elected officials failed to create laws that govern technology appropriately

So the FBI can log in and change setting ob privately owned devices because they are a threat to the country. However if any security research group did this it would be a violation of the computer fraud and abuse act. I feel like this is an huge overreach, even if its for the better. How about notify ISP and have them notify customers?

Fediverse got me out here defending #proton mail.

Just a general reminder, PGP/GPG protects the inside of the email, it does not protect the following:

- Who you sent it to
- the address you used to send it
- The Subject of the message
- The IPs you used to connect to mail severs
- the name and payment information you used when you signed up for the provier

It takes a lot of work and privacy is a sliding scale

So #privacy people...I currently use pCloud with EU servers for my cloud storage/backup. The price is right, I don't have to worry with it too much (though their WebDAV support is terrible)

I pay for space and the 1year modification retention.

Is there something else I should be looking at for this? Is their something they do/don't do? How do they rate on the privacy scale?

If you have a product that is licensed by some form of consumable(user count, device count, domains) and you have an API. Please let me pull number of licenses I have, how many are used and when my term expires via that damn API...one call preferably!

@WeirdWriter@caneandable.social the first thing I ask any I am trying to teach anything too is 'How do you learn?' An amazing number of people seem to not know this answer, but when teaching you must adapt how you are teaching to how your audience learns. There is still however a large number of people from all generations who were never taught how to understand beyond what was spoke to them as a learning process.

And work you do, the profit stolen. You want creative freedom..well the EULA says you don't own that. Your purchases are for sale..you don't own the meta data. They get to track your movements and even what you look at..that to can be sold...the profit to the company that owns the software. And all we need to change this is a few dozen people who believe that our right to exist is as 'not for profit' and to make it illegal to harvest and monetize the populace. A few dozen people to take down the companies build on the millions.
