@mwl Riding on Michael's post. If you have a new shiny install, you need backups. Object storage is cheap and basically accessible anywhere. Start now and duplicate your system before it is too late. Words by me #FreeBSD #duplicity https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/journal/browser-based-edition/laptop-desktop/duplicating-your-system

@mwl Because in a shitty world, people like jokes.

@0x0 FreeBSD on Ventoy is a bit of a hit and miss affair. I just use the smallest fast USB stick I have lying around instead.

@ironicbadger and still no #IPv6

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe So, what vendors are left that we can choose from (until they take the same path)? This reminds me of #SunMicrosystems and #Cisco back in the dot.com days. While Cisco is still around, it isn't as huge as it once was. And we all know what happened to Sun. Micron/Crucial may suffer the same fate when the bubble goes "POP!"

Great to see @daedalus@eigenmagic.net give an #OpenBSD shout out during this week's edition of #TheCrux #185

@neil Veracrypt got knocked too. AI is gutting MS from the inside.

@corduroy For today only....

@latenightlinux Thankfully the world has #BSD to avoid all the Pottering vibe/age mess. I suppose you have non-systemd distros but gee, I'd hate to be in the Linux camp right about now.

Ok peeps, time for a migration to the new instance and deprecating this one (in a couple of months). Hopefully it all works (the other two accounts did). Don't be alarmed if you see the migrated symbol and sorry to admins of other instances for the load.

I may issue another follow if things don't work as expected, be alert, not alarmed.

If everything goes smoothly, there will be further announcements over the coming week.

See you on the flip side!

@lobsters@mastodon.social I made a lot of money patching SunOS and Solaris systems #Y2K #SunMicrosystems

RE: @lobsters@mastodon.social

Well, my VPS provider has jacked up prices by around 20% because of this dumb AI shit affecting hardware prices. Everything left there is now being shifted to the 'basement DC' except for the mail server. Maybe I can just route mail through that and move the mail server compute on-prem too? #selfhosting #selfhost

@alexkidman@aus.social Clippy the OG AI

@JoeRess@fosstodon.org Has the same vibe as d i s c o from n-trance

@randahl@mastodon.social Nahh, JD will fall out of a window.

@redsad@ohai.social Oh dear, the non-fan bots are running wild with their image detection algorithms.

@robn@social.lol FWIW FreeBSD 14.4 has been released (14.3 is still supported for another 3 months).

@lproven@social.vivaldi.net @jpaskaruk@growers.social @joe@f.duriansoftware.com zstd-19 #ZFS maybe something similar for #RAM
