There are two types of people in this world:
-those who carry on a conversation on their phone, in a public toilet
- those who don’t understand what the fuck is wrong with those people

It was a mistake to get solar panels installed on what might be the coldest day of the year, with the power off most of the day so no heating. It’s obviously even worse for the blokes outside.

Ooh looks like I got curtailed today - my VPP prevented further exports in the middle of the day. That’s an unexpected problem. #pv

I analysed my EV roadtrip - Katoomba to Gold Coast, via Sydney Airport, up the M1, then home via Grafton, Armidale, Gloucester. This was the longest roadtrip I’ve done in ~3 years of Model 3 ownership…

  • 2285 km
  • $228 spent on energy (almost exactly 10c/km).

My key takeaways:

  1. Charging was almost entirely easy. Plenty of chargers (while still mostly Superchargers, there are plenty of others now too). The only challenge was Grafton to Armidale, which did require some thought #.
  2. The cost saving of an EV mostly evaporates when public charging. I kinda knew this, but this trip confirmed it. Well, except that I’m really driving a sports car, not a Toyota Corolla, so while you can drive a petrol car this cheaply, you can’t drive a car nearly this fun.
  3. This roadtrip cost me the equivalent of 10 months of home charging, and that’s before I get solar and battery installed. It’s only road trips where this car costs money to run.
The real problem was that, while the initial estimate was 13% left at Armidale, the road was WAY too much fun to drive in this car, and driving like a person having fun is much more expensive. We made it with 6% and that was fine.

Im at a solar + battery seminar in Penrith, and based on the cars in the street around, every other EV owner in western Sydney is here too.

Was reading a one-pedal braking thread on an EV subreddit. I had to come back here because people are idiots and I’m telling you instead of them.

I moved my phone back to Optus, and it’s going just as you would expect it to.

Here I am reporting an error trying to activate my watch plan. The agent apologizes they had to restart their tools because of some unexpected system updates.

How terrible an idea is it to go to the Gold Coast theme parks in the July school holidays?

I’ve spent a month in a support case with Optus, trying to get number share setup for my Apple Watch. They’ve no clue what to do. One idea was to get a physical SIM in my phone, but that was just a guess.
Anyone seen this issue where the mobile plan drops into the “not in use” section immediately?

Picking a kiddo up from the movies, and the carpark is full. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it even half full before. Is there some massive blockbuster on or are the cool kids all just going to the movies again now?

@paulwakeford@aus.social yeah, sorry - it turns out this API won't accept my Application key and your API Key - they need to be matched. I can't see a way to contact the API developers to ask "WTF" about that, so there will be a new build where you need to enter both, soon.

@stilgherrian@eigenmagic.net cool, this is why I built it - "I think I am overdoing it in the morning, and crashing in the afternoon". I am also interested in longer-term patterns. Turns out the easiest† way to get my caffeine into Apple Health was to build‡ an app.

Oh man driving an #ev seems so awful

abc.net.au

The fiddly and time-consuming reality of driving an EV in Australia

With no end in sight to soaring fuel prices, 7.30 decided to take an EV for a test drive to see how far it could take our reporter, and if Australia's EV charging network stacks up.

@mike805@noc.social mine can take 4 hours for a load - the tumbling is definitely much more gentle than vented dryers I’ve had before. They can do things like ask (or force?) me to discharge/charge during critical supply events for a bonus tariff. My bonus tariff is:
