@petko Been sailing the seas for around 30 yrs now. Will occasionally support a creator directly, but never corporations. Copyright laws and patents are just ways for the rich to gatekeep access. They should be abolished altogether. I mean, the European colonists also didn't give a fuck about copyright when they traveled across the globe, stealing left and right. And many of today's rich, who are whining about patents and copyright, have built their wealth on past thefts and exploitations to begin with.

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place The general rule of thumb seems to be: The further you go back in time, the better the products, be they online or offline. All courtesy of the fucked-up neoliberal capitalism that's festering across the whole world.

@Akshay When the EU banned Russian propaganda outlets, they should have done the same for all other foreign propaganda outlets, be it US ones or Chinese ones. But unfortunately, our politicians in the EU aren't chosen by skill, intelligence, or farsighted wisdom, but by their loyalty to the rich caste. Hence, they have no problem sucking up to US billionaires either, even if those billionaires embrace fascism and authoritarianism.

@mossman@social.vivaldi.net It's used interchangeably because most people simply don't have a clue and repeat some bits they've heard somewhere, resulting in others repeating that and so on. Laziness in language usage is one of the bigger problems in today's times. In the first place, calling self-learning algorithms Artificial Intelligences is already wrong since intelligence is a cognitive process that requires to make connections between different pieces of information/knowledge. An algorithm is incapable of that and thus it's not intelligent. 🤷‍♂️ @LordCaramac@discordian.social @cybso@osna.social @FediThing@social.chinwag.org @krautdragon@mastodon.social

@emsenn@kolektiva.social Not sure why anyone would think these two events are similar. One is a human crime affecting other humans; the other is a human crime affecting the whole planet. Depending on the level of destruction this civilization will cause to the planet and its nature until shit starts to hit the fan for real, a geofront might become the only feasible survival option. Though that's nothing an individual could orchestrate either way.

@cstross@wandering.shop It could be a very funny ad too, though, to be fair. The text above the picture says, "Find trainee positions that are actually suitable to you - with Azubiyo." Showing a supposed trainee screwing up the physiotherapy would make sense here if it's supposed to be funny. Also, we're talking about Germany...we don't really have AI yet. We just recently moved on from fax and modems to 3G and DSL /shrug.

@mossman@social.vivaldi.net My biggest boon with this whole marketing thing about self-learning algorithms is not so much their (often lacking) usefulness. I do understand that there are some aspects like pattern recognition to process vast amounts of data which can be a big help in some fields like law, medicine, etc. The problem we all should have with this corporate-driven marketing slop is the huge amounts of energy it requires. Because nowadays more energy means more fossil emissions. And the last thing we need is even more fossil emissions just so that some corporations and the oligarch owners behind them can make even more money for features no one needs.

@hirad@mastodon.hirad.it This does make sense, if you run your service on a single server farm/complex, since they will---no matter how many you add---have a physical limit to how much traffic they can process. But, Mastodon is decentralized, so the traffic and server access is being spread out across many different server farms in different locations. So while your argument definitely holds true in the sense of physical limitation, it's unlikely to occur here, unless one of the instances gets totally overrun without having the capacities to handle all the inflow of new users. But even then, people can simply migrate to other instances to mitigate the limitations. Something they obviously can't do in Elmo's sandbox. @YourGodSatan@evil.social @flup@mastodon.scot

@breadandcircuses@climatejustice.social For all probability, we're most likely watching the slow but steady endgame right now. And while most of us can sadly do little to change the inevitable, unless we gather into big groups (which doesn't seem likely at the current point in time), it's kind of ridiculous how those, who have to lose the most as they hoard all the money, power, and property, are the ones fueling the demise of their own special status like there's no tomorrow. Stupidity at its peak. Sometimes I really wake up in the morning, look at the news, and believe that I ended up in the dumbest timeline possible. 😞

@btschumy@mas.to This is certainly true, but it does not align with our current economic system, which has, in parts, become a religion for many. So long as capitalism is the dominant economic, cultural, societal, and political system on this planet, reducing consumption won't become an option. Especially regarding energy, since that's one of the driving forces behind today's capitalism.

@Perowinger94@mastodon.social

@autonomysolidarity@todon.eu "Middleclass" is a neoliberal, capitalist phrasing. The word exists to obscure the clear-cut distinction between the rich and the poor. As long as a person is a wage-labor slave, they're poor. Regardless of whether their income is $12k or $120k a year, they still offer their labor to some rich capitalist.
