Hi! I work on EU Climate Policy for DG CLIMA @EU_Commission@social.network.europa.eu. I've worked on EU greenhouse gas targets, climate neutrality, transport, and now, the EU Emissions Trading System. Here, however, I'm off duty. My employer does not endorse my views.

CW: Scatterbrained news addict, highly random interests not limited to things I know about, like #EU #Climate #ClimatePolicy, but include science, world politics, hiking, piano.

Analysis: India’s power-sector emissions flat for two years due to clean-energy surge - Carbon Brief

A surge in clean energy has kept carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in check across India’s power sector, with no growth from the first half of 2024 to the same period in 2026.

Climate shocks hit hydropower in Southern Africa, reviving interest in coal

LUSAKA —For years, Zambia and Zimbabwe have boasted of enviable success in harnessing hydropower. More than 80% of Zambia’s power supply and about half of neighboring Zimbabwe’s supply came from hydropower sources in 2024. But climate change has continued to expose the fragility of this dependence. Successive droughts, linked to the 2023-24 El Niño, caused […]

New cars in Europe (EU + EFTA + UK) in Q1 2026 were around 21% Battery Electric (BEV) and 10% Plug in hybrid (PHEV) and 38.5% hybrid.

But big differences per country, you can play with the widget at ACEA (car manufacturers organisation) to check yours.

Also shows the 2010s EU auto industry diesel craze was unwise.

@astro_jcm True hiking and alpine backpacks I know, including Deuter, are all toploaders. Also, in my case, comfortable ones tend to be too long and thin for carry on luggage as they need to hang on the hips while reaching shoulders. You might try looking into military style “tactical backpacks”. Made for marching, quick access to your shooting gear! This can turn into quite costly (or crappy) soldier cosplay however.
