I have a #rain barrel collector that is feeding thru layers of filter for free water. Dont drink the rain water personally but i use it for everything else. Got a brick propane pwered stove outside. I can live entirely #offgrid here comfortably indefinitely. No bills. I own the land, i own my car. Gonna get an ebike next and charge it using solar. #energy #independence is #freedom. My cost of living is so low right now, everything i earn is #savings.

@quinn That's because it's not about protecting children, it's about forcing adults to upload their private identifying information so they can be better tracked under surveillance. It's similar to when the FBI recently said using a proxy will place you under government scrutiny. The USA's corrupt oligarchs really, really hate privacy.

What the ever-loving-fuck #Kansas?! That the goddamn shit is this?? #Trans people are fucking people. How the fuck can any american look at this and be ok with it. To anyone cheering this on because they're not trans, you're a moron. They're not going to stop at trans people. They'll keep going, and when there is nobody left, they'll find some different way to other people. it will literally never end. It will come for you. #TransRights are #HumanRights. We all benefit. This disgusts me.

My daily budget for my #TinyHome is 15000 Wh per day, I have enough #Solar panels to charge up that amount in my #Batteries in 1 day's peak #sun hour. That's enough to run my tiny #AC and #refrigerator for 24 hours (plus a full day's backup of an extra 15000), with change left over for a few appliance. While normal desktop usage can only run for a few hours with the left over charge, I've found that a #RaspberryPi 4b can run for like 40 hours on 1 day's battery after AC and Fridge. Perfect!

Ever seen an #anole #lizard #sleep before? I have a bucket outside with some water in it that anoles apparently feel very safe in. I see them dipping their tails in the water constantly. Heres on taking a nap in the cool water:

@sverx My general rule of thumb is I need to store at least 6Kwh for night to be comfortable. I actually have my solar battery groups split, one 12 Kwh capacity, one 6 Kwh capacity. So I make sure I always have enough for night if needed, I built an interlock that lets me switch certain outlets between the two batteries.

@sverx The grouping is four 300 Ah LiFePO4 batteries in parallel, and then four 500Ah SLA batteries in series. The SLA batteries I managed to get completely for free. They're used, so you estimate 50% diminished capacity, and since they're SLA you can only run them down 50% before their life shortens, so 500/2/2 = 125 each, four = 5 Kwh. I have one last small battery that holds 1 Kwh in a portable form with it's own small panels.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social While my sister is a moron who I don't see anymore, seeing my parents in their 70s still keep their thoughts elastic enough to challenge their long-held beliefs is legitimately uplifting. Very proud of them for at least meeting the moment. If this ever goes into full on world war III territory, at least I can look back and say my parents were on the right side of history. You always wonder how people would have reacted during WWII. Turns out my parents would have fought back.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social It's ok, we've become estranged, but if there is one thing that sort of cheers me up, it's that my lifetime republican-by-default parents, who never payed attention to politics, started actually paying attention during the first trump term which coincided with their retirement. With hours of free time to spare, they started really paying attention. It's been a constant series of escalations since. They voted in the democratic senate primary in Texas last month, for example.

@martin_piper@mastodon.social Great, great game up until they start adding the flying mechanic. There's that one stage when it gets introduced which is like a tutorial, because the *entire* stage is a vertical climb you need to fly up... omg that stage is awful. *IF* I beat it, it's pure luck. That single mechanic grinds the game to a halt.

@martin_piper@mastodon.social I sincerely wish they hadn't included that mechanic, because everything before it is honestly great. It's a much better "sonic clone" than Kid Chaos IMO. I still enjoy the game, though. It was the very first Amiga title I bought. It'll always have a special place in my heart because of that.

So... those #AMD BC-250 singleboard #APUs have apparently 16 gb of DDR6 memory on them. These boards go for like $100-$150 on ebay, but ram is worth 10 times that. One of my friends in an #EE and we've gotten the idea to try and scrape one of these for ram and create our own DDR6 ram stick from scratch. If we can do this, these things become a gold mine. I wonder how impossible this will be lol. #tech #homebrew #engineering #electricalengineering

#modeling and #rendering the Fire LEO-04 "Rynex" from #Thunder #Force on a #sega #dreamcast. This is mainly a test of the #vertex count and submission. The original model was something I found in public domain on the internet, but I had to heavily, heavily edit it to get it to an acceptable vertex count for the DC. #Materials export is busted, hence no colors. #Graphics #Programming #homebrew #gamedev

@stib@aus.social I have an arcade machine that runs a PC inside. For some reason, I absolutely could not install windows 10 on it years ago. Any time I would try, it would crash and bluescreen constantly. It'd even crash during the install. Then Valve realsed Steam Proton and I decided to give Ubuntu a try on it. Worked flawlessly. It's still running ubuntu to this day. I played VF5 on it just this evening. If you want to really blow his mind, get him a steam deck and show him the sleep mode on it.

It's impossible for me to pick my favorite things Heidecker has ever done, but I think the two that stick in my head is his #YellowRiver Boys southern rock album all about drinking #piss, or his #Office #hours show that's a parody of Real Time with Bill Maher. The Yellow River Boys album is legitimately catchy, too! The bit where his wife catches him pissing into a jug of apple juice and calling him a "son of a gun" makes me laugh so hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su-mi0CVGRQ

Top half of building is an attic for more space. Solar panels on the roof. My entire footprint is 100 sqft. Despite all this stuff, i still have a wide opem living room that i can lay on the floor in.

@carlrichell Wasn't it just a yearish ago that these same types of lawmakers were trying to pass a built to make using C and C++ illegal for government contracts because they aren't threadsafe? Ask them how this bill is at all in line with their previous attempts at safety. Because this bill would give more utility towards those monolithic programs, thus making them more attractive to use. And monolithic programs are not safe beyond being threadsafe.

#Houston #Comets are back, that fucking rules! They were the first #dynasty of the #WNBA, winning the first *FOUR* championships back to back to back to back. They still hold the record for most WNBA championships by team despite having not existed since 2008. It's been a freaking joke that the Comets weren't around anymore. Their original teams were legendary with Sherryl Swoopes and Kim Perot. I'm legit stoked. Fuck yeah! #Basketball

@carlrichell give one final argument: You can very easily write monolithic programs that will do everything they are trying to avoid, without being classified as an OS. And, in fact, those monolithic programs would be harder to regulate because at that point, they simply become programs without any real defining characteristics to isolate them by the language beiung used.

My solar panels completely refill the 18kwh battery capacity in just 1 day, plus change. I use about 12 kwh in 24 hours at full load, so i can run fully off battery for a day and a half. Even cloudy, since i have enough panels, i should generate enough for a night if a cloudy day.

@carlrichell what about stuff like Amiga Workbench? They still make Amiga OS. How would something like that work?? That's not FOSS... but Amigas lack the ability to even phone out to facilitate age verification. Amigas don't even have an RTC. This entire idea is technologically infeasible.

@carlrichell I thought law was supposed to be the realm of ultra-precise language for a reason. You can't build a law against a vague vibes definition. The vast amount of normal computer users have no idea what an operating system is despite thinking they do, and I 100% guarantee these lawmakers you speaking of are just as ignorant. If the logical arguments won't hold sway, turn to the argument of the language.

@carlrichell The entire purpose of modern operating systems is to facilitate multitasking operation by interacting with context switches with the scheduler. When you break down what this means in plain english, the bill becomes "It's illegal to run multiple programs at once without giving your age." Which should be nakedly obvious as to why this isn't accomplishing their stated goals and only hurts non-corporate technologists as a whole.
