Most people use macro to shoot flowers or insects, but I prefer weathered facades. Close ups of old concrete reveal the actual life of a building, from the salt deposits to the tiny cracks. It is the best way to study how materials age in our climate. Seeing the texture of the surface tells me more about the quality of the build than any blueprint. #macrophotography #architecture #materials

💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: A team of scientists engineered an electrospun purple #fabric that reflects about 88% of sunlight and stays cooler than white #cotton in outdoor tests. In direct #sun, it ran up to 6º C (11º F) cooler than dyed purple cotton, and on simulated skin it beat uncovered skin by nearly 8º C. The lightweight #textile also kept its cooling effect after 50 wash cycles and showed strong durability under #UV exposure. 👉 https://interestingengineering.com/science/purple-fabric-reflects-sunlight-stays-cooler #science #materials #physics #color #heat #innovation #engineering #clothing #research

Kupros has launched Cu29, a conductive copper filament for FDM 3D printing that enables electronics prototyping without specialised equipment. The startup overcame skepticism from experts who claimed copper could never be 3D printed. Cu29 allows makers to create conductive traces on standard desktop printers. https://www.3dnatives.com/en/3dstartup-kupros-filament-cu29/ #3Dprint #3Dprinting #Materials

Dutch firm Hembased has launched a cold compostable 3D printing filament made from palm leaf agricultural waste. The material degrades in 20-30C temperatures within a year in standard compost bins, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional filaments. Available from 36 USD per kilo. https://3dprint.com/328883/hembased-launches-compostable-filament-made-out-of-palm-leaves/ #3Dprint #3Dprinting #Materials
