They might have been Cackling Geese, which look a lot like Canada Geese but are a bit smaller and tend to congregate in larger flocks.
Greater White-Fronted Geese also look somewhat similar and love big flocks (and cannot lie).

Was supposed to be Elk Island but sadly the park is still closed due to storm damage.

A slightly somber #caturday as we learned Bailey's kidney failure has advanced to stage 3 pretty suddenly, on top of some other new age-related issues.
She's almost 20 years old, we knew this sort of thing was always just over the horizon, but it's still so hard to see it coming up now, especially so much faster than we hoped.
She's still surprisingly active and spry, so we have hope that we can treat her condition a bit longer, but we know we have some very hard decisions coming up soon. 💔
My city is holding public consultations on the next budget, and a friend shared a peculiar funding demand that immediately made me think of @futurebird@sauropods.win

Would be a shame if this sham form by this sham government got flooded with positive requests for more bike infrastructure...
EDIT: It's been pointed out that the structure of the form and the pattern of the UCP means that any submission will probably just get used as a hard "look, we got X complaints! Time to take out the bike lanes!"
What we really need is a counter-form...

Picked up a few plants today from @PHD_FARM@mstdn.ca for the garden and yard this year. Got some eggplants, ground cherry, Huckleberry, bee balm, and lavender.
Gotta go back this weekend, though, as the cucumber plants weren't quite ready yet.
Still such a cool concept and great use of normally underutilized yards. Great to finally meet the proprietor too!

Someone was telling me that they spoke to a separatist the other day who believed there are Chinese troops stationed in northern Alberta and I honestly don't know how to fight such absolute nonsense anymore.

Part of me actually wonders if it will fly as well as they hope, given the current situation of gas prices is no doubt pushing more people to give bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices a try.
But I'm not optimistic that it will be enough to deter them.

The latest Rossdale neighbourhood renewal draft is out. IIRC earlier drafts had new bike lanes along 96 Avenue from the river trail to the Legislature, but that appears to have been dropped.
Instead, it looks like they're going to funnel bikes to the crappy SUP along 97 Ave, which is much less pleasant, much noisier, and has much more dangerous crossings.

Not sure that's the answer especially given that they only just narrowed Rossdale Rd recently to cut down on traffic in the neighbourhood.
The real answer, for which CoE has a draft plan floating out there for though I don't know where it is at now nor if it will ever see the light of day now, is to narrow 97 Ave by at least one lane in each direction, as well as the widths of the remaining lanes.

I feel like the 311 operator maybe didn't fully understand the situation. The City leases that land from the mall to run the depot, and as far as I know the City is responsible for its upkeep as far as that operation goes.
As handy as 311 can be, sometimes the operators don't fully understand the context of the issue, or their systems don't provide them enough information to inform how to route them.
A quick email to the ward Councillor (Salvador) should help resolve it.

Yeah I sometimes go through there as part of my commute and take 96 Ave to 107 street. It's not the best, but it is much better than 97 Ave, and can be improved much more readily as part of the renewal.

Someone else made this point and based on what I've been told about the form and having limited input choices you're probably correct.
I also had the thought that a FOIP request could put such claims to bed but I have to remember the damage would already be done long before that.
Maybe what we need is a counter-form...
