Toxic authors threatened me and incited violence because I did the best I could to support minorities. Now, for my physical and mental health, I am no longer reviewing books or interviewing authors.

@ptoothfish@beige.party it is enraging. They “can’t” ban the sites that radicalise men, they “can’t” force Meta to ban eg r-pe groups and “how to m-rd-r your wife/partner and get away with it” groups, but I get banned because I won’t give rando companies govt ID that can be used for identity theft, I can’t do 2-factor authentication, so I’m gradually being frozen out of the online world. I worry that I won’t be able to function online without assistance within months or a few years.

@SeaFury@aus.social I have been but the time is nigh when the pupper must go outside and we don’t have a doggie door. There’s no point: she won’t poo in the backyard EVER so I have to take her up the street. Currently she has a favourite bit of nature strip, so much so that I’m wondering if those neighbours offended her. In Canberra she was kinda friends with a dog that disappeared then returned aggressive so pupper preferred to pee and poo right outside that dog’s fence, even on the steps to their gate.

@joannaholman@aus.social @TechTangents@dialup.space @Su_G@aus.social Maybe but there would be less waste and less cost to them if they just found a good website run by a real person and bought a pattern online. Alternatively, try libraries. Libraries traditionally have craft books and may well have the perfect book - which can then be purchased with confidence.

Hanson is Australia’s Trump. If she gets too much political clout, Australia will follow the US into economic destruction, KGB style disappearances of citizens and visa holders, and more.

@SeaFury@aus.social good for you! I miss the days of coffee with friends (usually it’s just my husband, which is nice but I miss coffee with friends after moving). But I also enjoy going out alone, having a treat without obligatory conversation. And I love writing in cafes, it’s where I used to write the first draft of most of my reviews.

@SeaFury@aus.social I don’t mind a drizzle but I guess I got put off walking in the rain when I moved to Melbourne from Adelaide, my raincoat wasn’t waterproof (it was when I bought it but years in Adelaide I rarely needed one so it wore out) and I got caught in hail a few times in a short period. Plus my dog isn’t a fan of walking in the rain, although she’s much more tolerant of it now than when I got her. She used to argue about going outside if rain was coming in 1/2 hour or so.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social I think Israel shooting Israeli hostages so they could also kill the people returning the hostages has really poisoned the zeitgeist. Also poisoning us is US propaganda that Iranians are dancing in the streets in the US and Iran after the US murdered thousand/s of their people. All it takes is a second to think of a family that, divided, unites when someone attacks one of their own. Iran may not be united in theology, but they don’t want their kids murdered.

@evacide IMO it became easier when, years ago, foul men living in the USA posted sh*t about me (“How dare an Australian woman start a zine without our permission and mentoring?!”) and I learnt that they WANTED an online fight and to be named. They were FURIOUS when I took all identifiers & links to them off my website. Many ppl are like that: they want the engagement. The best punishment you can mete out is to ignore and even block.

@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social oh for the days… the Bible says the “heart of man is evil”. I used to read that and reject it, thinking most people are good at heart. Now? I’m surprised at how many sociopaths and psychopaths who are knowingly the architects and engineers of the deaths of thousands and millions, and who are helped along the way by politicians and others.

I loved Colbert’s show and his segments featuring the World Central Kitchen where he raised money for their good work. Apparently during Colbert’s final show, he gave his employer “the finger” while raising more for the Kitchen, lol.

What does she expect? For random strangers to rush up to her and fawn all over her?
If a stranger rushes up to me in the street I brace myself for what might come next.
Admittedly it’s often people admiring my seeing eye dog but sometimes (too often) it’s terrifying.

Not long ago Netflix said they already had a contract to purchase WBD so the Paramount bid was too late. Seems Trump blew it up to give Kushner, Saudis etc, ownership of USA channels and production companies. I’d like a list of the gifts they gave Trump and photos of all the gold.

@paul previously they said they had a contract and Paramount’s offer was too late. I reckon Trump blew it up. Also Kushner, Saudis and others were involved with Paramount. Expect Paramount, WB and others to undergo a transformation like Twitter’s. It’s a shame to think they’ll destroy icons like Star Trek but it’s inevitable at this stage.

RE: @anathema_device@bne.social

Herbal supplements can do a lot of harm because they’re not regulated. Years ago I read about a green tea supplement but it was thousands of times more potent than a cup of green tea and killed people. The guy the story was about had his liver destroyed by this supplement (but was still alive and disabled at the time). Be very careful about unregulated products.

@OddJob one of my cats has additional duties: chat to neighbour’s cat; ignore neighbour’s cat when it’s yowling; get really hissy when neighbour’s cat enters our yard. (My dog hides when I’m on the phone & NOT angry because she translates deeper tones as anger. Guess what? She also hides when the cats are getting hissy at the neighbour’s cat, even though the security door prevented interaction)

TBH I tend to think of April fools as being quite nasty, mean spirited. But my fave pranks: an Aussie radio show asked ppl to cut a bit of their lawn & leave it out the front for collection to take to the Antarctic to create a footy field; Princess Di’s very public super weird birthing event so weird that I thought WTF until I remembered it was April Fools

@rodhilton@mastodon.social bet he’d be like Trump: continue taking $ whenever he felt like it without permission, amounts without permission, until the banks get involved and you get a new credit card. Also he’d probably sell your info. Used to be we were going to buy a Tesla. No way in hell now. I reckon when Tesla and Musk go down he’ll use their remote systems to brick all their cars.

I’ve removed all AI, repeatedly, whenever I realise it’s running. And I try to block companies from installing it but eg Apple overrides my refusals of “updates” and I HATE IT.
