@pndc@social.treehouse.systems @cstross@wandering.shop It's hardly a coincidence that a test-screening of 'Melania' for Melania and her husband was followed immediately by the swift demolition of the White House Family Theater and, as a precaution against wider exposure, the rest of the East Wing of the White House. These containment efforts were unsuccessful, and it's now been confirmed that other people have been exposed to the 'Melania' film — global estimates suggest the number of people affected could be on the order of the dozens.

Julie Bishop shuffled out of her position of chancellor of Australian National University yesterday. She quit rather than being pushed out of her tenure early. Her time at ANU was like her time in politics: self-promotional ego fluffing, no respect for others or ability to work cooperatively on shared goals, untrustworthiness, and persistent scandals.

I'm sure it's just a _coincidence_ that folks have been thinking recently about how an assassination attempt is good for votes. For examples, see the attached screenshots.
IMHO, people are going to believe whatever they want to about today's event, but one important difference this time is nobody will give Trump any sympathy or a measurable boost in the polls. Nor will it stop people asking questions about Trump's involvement in the Epstein Files.

You don't often hear about wild animals scoring a win quite like this in human-animal conflict. When it involves a rich, entitled knob who thinks committing gun crimes against animals is "sport", that's a reason for celebration.
The serial killer, who had a history of murdering elephants and lions, had invaded the territory of five adult female elephants and a baby elephant. The adults successfully defended their young. They had to act quickly, so in lieu of the traditional means of dispensing with an unwanted millionaire by guillotine, they improvised and trampled him to death. Contrary to popular belief, the soles of elephants' feet are very sensitive, so I hope they didn't experience any discomfort from stepping on the trash.

@trib I think most people are already doing what they can. We can see petrol prices are sky-high and would like to spend less time driving a car to/from work.
Like you said, businesses need to pull their weight. If the government wants people to drive their cars less, they could start by encouraging folks to do more Work From Home, and at the same time put pressure on businesses to reverse the Return-to-Office nonsense beloved by power-tripping managers.

David Littleproud and the remaining few National Party front-benchers out of their jobs simply for fighting for our Free Speech. Oops, I must have been channelling Sky News for a moment.
Susssan Ley finds herself in the unenviable position of being shackled to a bunch of National Party crybabies in the Coalition. If they want to have a dummy-spit for their right to sieg-heil in public, let them. Despite their claims, this is not about gun control — that's an initiative the Coalition keeps reminding us was John Howard's one good act in his career. It's been clear for a while that the Nats would rather tear-apart their partnership than accept Susssan Ley as the leader of the Coalition.

@petergleick@fediscience.org My initial assumption was the workers were having their identities protected by the tarp so they aren't targeted for repercussions by violent MAGA thugs. But, the tarp remains, so Occam's Razor suggests Trump's cronies are trying to censor reality:
- Evidence that Trump's name was removed from the Kennedy Center.
- Evidence that Trump's name can be removed from other places where he's stealing valor.

Bunch of fascists having a "Whataboutmeee?!" whinge because reality doesn't measure-up to their overbearing sense of entitlement. If they put even a tiny proportion of the energy they devote to performative outrage into tackling the real problems of the world, it would be a better place for everyone. But they can't be arsed because that would require giving consideration to women, Blacks, and all the other people they've decided to hate.
