On my meager wage of $1.25hr 40hrs got me an apartment, food, transpo (The basic living needs) and a beer after work. Even some medical cost. I also got much of my first 2 years of college at the same time. No debt. Jr college cost $5.00 for a student ID and books. Then we got Nixon and it all went away by the time we got Reagan, gone. Coincidence?

The Revolutionary War lasted 8 years of some of the most horrifying combat anyone can imagine. Single shot rifles & bayonets, starvation, rape, frostbite, disease & they did it for a budding democracy. Today fully 1/3rd of eligible voters don't? We can't take a few hours every couple of years.

I was in an office waiting for someone talking to a Secretary. She was excited she had just gotten a new computer, I'd guess it had a clone of the 8086 running at 1MHz she said. It was running a bootlegged cc of MS.dos with bootleg cc M$ Windows. I was up town, had an i486 laptop that I almost lost to airport security. They thought I might be carrying restricted tech . . . 😂

I find it amazing how many groups/people are saying this can't be done or that won't work. I remember in that time between WWII & the 1970's, when a great many people had far more income than the workers of today. @ $1.25 an hour I could afford house, food , transpo and College, the Tax structure was beginning to work well @ a 60% to 90% tax rate. So what happened between then and now?

Fortunately it has changed to (when practiced correctly as democracy/republic) an ideal that lets all to have access & a say. Those who fought for it in 1700's always struck me as those who saw themselves as "we the people". A great many people had land who'd never had the chance in UK. Interesting that it was Madison who was one of the driver's of the Bill of Rights.

If they were going to bootleg an os seemed to me that would have been better off with IBM OS2. I ran my BBS on it far better than desqview. I could actually run as many incidence & phone lines as I wanted. Tho I never got past 4. At the time there was a pop of < 15000 including animals in an area the size of W Virginia.

College cost $5.00 for a student body card & books. That time from WWII - 70's was the most productive & creative, in history. Business was doing fine with a tax of 60-90% it was setup so they did better when they took care of their people/community. $ cycled more than once before the rich got it.

We had the best public school in the world, a route to college that was affordable, the entirety of the Hwy system. I remember I5/99 as a 2 lane road. Airports. Minimum wage was $1.25hr a living wage. All done under what was called the "Liberal Consensus". We worked to get it for all people, abortion, women & minority rights, then came the GOP.

I worked, went to school & had enough for a beer after. The great majority had enough to live on, & as AOC says should be able to go on vacation. That economy needed to be for all but as we see today the artificial barriers. Business made money, people made money, it promoted small business. Most everyone was getting a share.
