#chatmail

Meet #PixelSocial: a private social network you can host without any server just in your chats! for example in the family chat to have a private social network that only the family can access to! or for a group of friends if you want to test it, there is also a public anonymous instance where you can actually interact with strangers thanks to a bot that works as bridge: https://i.delta.chat/#C753A22A447DE8CA18653B9C7668BC822C0561CA&a=pixsocial%40arcanechat.me&n=PixelSocial&i=sz7HYOnPmjG1WWOclOFlGLFv&s=XJFfgZRHwvTVAvBAQKJxFL2F #ArcaneChat #DeltaChat #chatmail #webxdc #bot #socialmedia #socialnetwork #miniapp #europe #european #privacy #anonymity #autonomy #digitalindependence #sovereignty

Yay! pinning messages is now part of the chatmail protocol and not client-specific! https://github.com/chatmail/core/commit/bd0c0b6b4bc7 this new jsonrpc call will be made available in core 2.58 #chatmail #deltachat

Is there a guide to launch a #chatmail instance on #FreeBSD to use with #DeltaChat ? Boosts appreciated

the #ArcaneChat channels list now also has #Russian channels the list is rather short, if you know someone with a channel in Russian that would like to add it to the list, tell them to contact me https://arcanechat.me/channels #DeltaChat #chatmail #Russia #channels

reflecting a lot on #fediverse lately. instance hopping is such an event and sometimes disruptive. ive spent a lot of time running #chatmail relays and until recently contributing to upstream. we can relay hop and its almost silent. your cryptographic identity is owned by you, not the relay operator. giving you a feeling or being nomadic. servers go down, operators retire or fade out. but you keep your identity. this works great for #deltachat and enjoy the flexibility. but #activitypub doesn't have an agreed upon implementation. @silverpill@mitra.social is doing great work with his research and #mitra ecosystem. my hopes are eventually we'll see this on fedi across the ecosystems.

🎉 New channel for #ArcaneChat, #DeltaChat and other #chatmail clients: Greenpeace International: Greenpeace exists because this fragile Earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action. Telegram is an extreme security risk for its users, its developers and operators, holding data and metadata for over a billion people on central servers! Our decentralized zero-metadata messaging approach is diametrically opposed to such big-platform designs https://delta.chat/en/2026-03-31-zero But there is more: #chatmail relays are zero-state: you can wipe the relay's disks, create a new fresh setup, and users just continue chatting. Operators have actually done this. An *actually* state-less server :)

It's hard these days to find a unifying description, or know about all the people and communities involved in #deltachat #chatmail #webxdc developments. One shared sentiment probably is wanting to develop anti-authoritarian technologies and cultures around it, and being opposed to authoritarian tech policy moves in the West, chat control, age verification, prescribing Google/Apple control, enforcing digital app use etc It's also a reason we are only posting on the fediverse bridged to bsky.

A note on "#deltachat is going proprietary with #chatmail relays": 1) It's all based on IETF standards, with configuration and custom integration code fully FOSS and documented at: https://chatmail.at/doc/relay/ with hundreds of permission-free deployments. 2) We know of several alternative relay implementations and deployments 3) Own servers or big email providers can be used (YMMV) However it's fair to criticize our relentless focus on E2EE, and our moving away from email addresses as identity.

• it's a waste of time
• it's not possible
• just use the desktop/mobile client

so you told me many times...

We don't think any institution or state has the right to prevent families and friends from private chatting, physically or digitally. But the Cyber Authority China (CaC) seems to take offense:

• they made Apple remove #deltachat iOS for mainland china

• their great firewall appears to block some #chatmail relays

• if you ask DeepSeek directly about Delta Chat, it doesn't want to talk

It's pretty sad, really. Everybody on this planet needs, and has a human right to private communication.

RE: https://chaos.social/@delta/116505223145222985 All of the advances in #deltachat apps and the growth of the #chatmail relay network, wouldn't be possible without public funds and private donations, an estimated 800K EUR in 2026 ❤️ money goes to ~16 FOSS contributors with no money left for president, board or director salaries 🖤 Signal uses >50 Million per year, Telegram and Whatsapp 100's Millions, and they are all not building permission-free decentralized chat infra and apps, let alone secure mini app ecosystems https://webxdc.org

We’ve been busy building and releasing but it’s high time to share some major news: @sovtechfund@mastodon.social is investing nearly €500K into #chatmail This 18-month commitment supports chatmail maintainers keeping the core infrastructure secure and evolving, which is the backbone for: #DeltaChat @arcanechat @deltatouch@social.tchncs.de Parla on Gnome (cc @pancake@infosec.exchange ) and many chat bots A huge thank you to the Sovereign Tech Fund for investing in open, secure and decentralized communication! https://www.sovereign.tech/tech/chatmail

"Popularity is overrated" is an often occuring phrase in our circles. Which is of course nonsense because only what is popular, counts, right? Only what everybody else does is a valid choice, right? #deltachat #chatmail and #webxdc are used in private places and communities that people are molding for themselves. We are just providing tools and approaches that work ... At least most of the time 😅 "Nothing works all the time" is another project mantra. Brb preparing the next releases :)

the public #chatmail relay list https://chatmail.at/relays covers about ~20% or so of chat relays we heart about and have traces or hints from, and we definitely don't see everything -- which is how it should be :) Best of all: you can now start using multiple relays for your chat profiles, so even if one relay goes down or is blocked temporarily, chatting continues. https://delta.chat/en/2026-03-31-zero#maximizing-availability-and-resilience-through-multi-path-delivery

@rakoo@blah.rako.space no, user numbers are getting.increasingly unknown even to us. We tried to express this. That more people are joining the fun and contributing in various ways, is what we experience and appreciate. All three key efforts,#chatmail #deltachat and #webxdc are community efforts.

What if all public funding and all private donations to our efforts stop tomorrow? Users should be fine for years thanks to the wonderful world-wide community of #chatmail relay operators 💜 Relays are dirt cheap to run. Also, our developments are much cheaper and less complex compared to what we know from comparable efforts. No worries though! We currently have moneys to help sustain ~15 contributors, with a sum similar to what other projects pay for their foundation president/CEO alone :)

discord:

• preparing for age verification
• centralized
• no e2ee
• monitored platform
• surveillance-ridden
• forced phone number validation

deltachat/chatmail:

• no logs
• e2ee
• decentralized
• federated
• relay-swapping
• multi-relay (become unstoppable!)
• no tracking
• relay operators see nothing
• no surveillance

the #deltachat and #chatmail teams are hard at work improving our ecosystem, client ui/ux, and building community!
