Hey #Fediverse I’m an #author and #indiedev thats bounced between a few different accounts most recently on GoToSocial, but I missed feeling like I was a part of a community, which led me to join omg.lol. I’m currently writing a massive sprawling epic fantasy told across serialized short stories that take place across eras and realities. It’s available for free to read. I’m also working toward the release of Day Four, a contemplative fantasy about loss and power and the precarious lives of those who resist it. On the dev side, I’m working on finishing up a soon to be released low stress task app called Cadence, and I built slowclap, a patronage platform that’s based around community support! I’m looking forward to meeting you all out in the Fediverse! Thanks for reading! #introduction

#WritersCoffeeClub #WCC 2026.09.28 — Could you work without the [I]nternet? What would change? I wrote using a computer from 1975 through 1997—though the early years were timeshare—without the aid of the Internet. Spellcheckers and grammar checkers appeared well before they became Internet-based, though I have hardcopy (remember books?) dictionaries, reverse dictionaries, spell-check books, and thesauri. I do have encyclopedias of science, engineering, and other knowledge lookup books, but realistically, research without a good librarian would be very much more difficult without the Internet, and would have taken days instead of minutes. I look up a lot of things. Writing my Mars-colonization novel would have been very difficult without being able to look up facts, photos, a discussions at the time of need. Moreover, I would not have written it at all, since the feminist story is based on a #writever month of feminist prompts—31 of them, one for each chapter—posted on Mastodon. I am thankful for the Internet. Would your main character be the type to tell themselves affirmations? That depends on what qualifies as an affirmation. Does clutching the clipboard and mumbling, ‘We can think our way out of this,’ count? #writersofmastodon #writing #author

What is your cure for getting out of a creative slump? That's usually my brain's way of asking for a pause. I look around me: what's going on in my life? Stress? Worries? Grief? Anger? Unresolved problems soaking up the energy? Show the ol' noggin some compassion and let it have the break it's asking for. Just don't overdo it. #writersofmastodon #author #writers

Your editor wants you to cut a favourite chapter. How do you react? I cut it out and save it in a folder among all the other favourite chapters. Rereads the book once my hurt pride has calmed down a bit. If I still agree with the editor, it stays out. The chapter might find its way into something else, in one way or the other. Maybe it will be the start of a new, short story? But I'm not sacrificing the overall story for one beautiful chapter. #writersofmastodon #author #writing

Having to trust the editor, and let the book go? It's a bit like watching the kids move out. You know it's time, but you'd still want just a little more time because even though you can always see them again, once you've let them go, they've entered a new phase in their life. One where you don't get to be a part of every single little detail any more. #author #writersofmastodon #writing

I turned up at Waterstones in Worthing to sign some new stock of QUEER ORIGINS and was absolutely bowled over to be greeted by this, in prime position in the shop window! It's so uplifting when booksellers get behind one's book. 💜🌈📚🦋 #book #books #bookstodon #reading #readingcommunity #writing #author #science #nature #animals #evolution #Darwin #history #histsci #histsex #queerhistory #lgbt #lgbtq #lgbtqia

Hello lovely people. I'm running an online 3 hr crash course in indie publishing in October that'll give you all the info you'll need to get a book out there. Pay-what-you-can. Oct 7th. Ticket holders can access the video for 2 weeks after if you can't make the time. This recently sold out here at Beautiful Words Festival. The pay-what-you-can is because we want it to be as accessible as possible🪻🌹 https://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/a-crash-course-in-independent-publishing-tickets-1997305616866 #books #bookstodon #author #indie #indieauthor

@AverageS My Word of the Day today is QUARRY-FACED. Share YOUR words to describe this picture in the comments! Quarry-faced, from Middle English quarere, Medieval Latin quarreria, literally a “place where stones are squared,” from Old French quarrière , in turn derived from Vulgar Latin quadraria, from Latin quadrō, to square + -faced, from face, Middle English face, from Old French face, in turn derived from Late Latin facia, from Latin faciēs, form, appearance + -ed, used to form past tenses of regular verbs. Meaning, having a face left as it comes from the quarry and not smoothed with the chisel or point (stonemasonry, of stones). The picture shows a weathered stone gothic folly tower built from rough, uncoursed grey fieldstones. This definition pretty much does what it says on the tin. #WritersOfMastodon #TalesFrom… #SecretLife… #HowtoSucceed… #Author #Novel

#onthisday "Avast, Ye Mateys! Hoist Yer Colours for Talk Like a Pirate Day!" Arrrrr! All you landlubbers, prepare to be boarded. It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, so be quick about it or you’ll be walking the plank. Here are a few handy phrases you scurvy dogs can use to help you fit in as though you be one of the crew, to prevent you from being keelhauled. How to Talk Like a Pirate Arrrrr!!: Various meanings from "yes" to "I agree," to "I'm happy" or "I'm enjoying this beer." Ahoy!: Hello. Avast!: Stop and give attention. Aye!: "Yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said." Aye, aye!: "I'll get right on it, sir, as soon as my break is over." Beauty: The best possible pirate address for a woman. Always preceded by "me," as in "C'mere, me beauty." Bilge rat: The bilge is the ship's lowest level. It's loaded with ballast and slimy, reeking water. This is where bilge rats live. Grog: An alcoholic drink, usually rum diluted with water. Or beer. Or whatever yer tippin,' if calling it that makes you happy. Landlubber: The seaman's version of "land lover," mangled by typical pirate disregard for elocution. A "lubber" is someone who does not go to sea. In a room where everyone is talking like pirates, lubber is always an insult. #WritersOfMastodon #TalesFrom… #SecretLife… #HowtoSucceed… #Author #Novel

#AmReading Or, in the case The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves and China Miéville, #AmNotReading. Whilst it sounded like an intriguing team up between the writer and the actor it prove to be an extremely difficult read and ultimately I couldn’t force myself to finish it. A tedious narrative filled with characters devoid of anything in the way of a personality. It was impossible to identify with any of the characters. Hence I abandoned it, something I rarely do, even after forcing myself to try to read it small chunks as a way of minimising the tedium. #WritersOfMastodon #TalesFrom… #SecretLife… #HowtoSucceed… #Author #Novel
