another licensed fork of Windows NT 3.51 (or more specifically, a fork of a fork), Insignia Ntrigue, has hit the old tech space, and it's effectively Citrix WinFrame but the entire OS is acting as an X11 client

talk about a cursed RDP nightmare combo...

edit: typo'd, meant to say it acts as an X11 client and not a server

think my resilience to VR motion sickness shot up through the roof in a matter of a week, went from being only able to withstand an hour on day one of owning a Frame to just... feeling completely indifferent no matter what space you're in (be it IRL or in VR)

In light of some people blindly promoting this "Stop Killing the Internet" nonsense:

Please read the goddamn petition text before throwing yourself into a list of idiots who blindly signed their support in favor of intrusive age verification checks using flawed/non-existent technologies and the normalization of ID verification simply because they read the title only and not their actual contents.

It's like saying you found a golden goose egg, showing it off to somebody, and it so happens they and the people around you look disgusted seeing you hold a pile of shit.

Or, I don't know, recommending a book to somebody based on its cover without ever having read it, and it so happens to be a pile of bullshit.

@Rairii@labyrinth.zone @jernej__s@infosec.exchange I took a quick look at KB5043080 and KB5101650, and it so happens that literally none of the matching component versions for the Media Feature Pack exist in either update. It starts choking once it attempts to upgrade away from a version of Windows Media Player that doesn't exist on both updates and on the VM itself. 2026-07-24 13:16:31, Error CSI 00000c9d (F) Matching binary wmplayer.exe missing for component Microsoft-Windows-MediaPlayer-Core, version 10.0.26100.7920, arch amd64, nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}[gle=0x80004005] What the fuck is this shit???

The Maltese language, better known as "Copyright Infringement: The Literary Hodgepodge".

Wanna drag in a superset of Semitic languages into something and Romanize everything in the process? Sure, we've already got a language for that.

Ever thought of stealing entire words from completely unrelated languages? Yeah, I'm down for lifting entire words off of Italian, English, Arabic and Spanish. Let's all have fun driving our karozzas and typing away entire spreadsheets on our kompjuters while we doomscroll into the deepest toxic-fueled pits of the Internet on our mowbajls. I could afford to eat a tuffieħa as well.

Oh, what's that? You want to reinvent the entire literary wheel? Sfortunatament, il-biża tiegħek ġiet ikkonfermat issa. Let's just steal the entire English alphabet and alter it slightly to drop what are otherwise some useful characters and replace them with less sensible options, all while mashing four goddamn languages together.

Mhux sabiħ biex tara l-istat tal-lingwa Maltija u kif jidher daqstant kemm hu ridikkoluża? Honestly, a non-speaker could probably barely make out any of what I'm saying here.

Should more British homes be built using straw?

Cheap, highly insulating and sustainable, straw has a lot of potential for the building industry.

@tauon@possum.city @tendstofortytwo@social.treehouse.systems WIM images are basically a sector-by-sector capture of a specified directory or disk partition with all file/folder attributes and creation/modification dates and symbolic links preserved, encapsulated inside of a single index you can have more than one OS image index in a WIM file, and WIMs support LZX and LZMS compression they're meant to work best with Windows OS images, since they can be serviced using the Windows component-based servicing stack and are able to be pre-customized by OEMs

Replying to
@tendstofortytwo@social.treehouse.systems @tauon@possum.city because Setup expects a valid Windows image to not only display the built-in EULA, but also to perform last-minute servicing (with the user's chosen localization settings; keyboard layout, time, language) at the end of the deployment process. additional operations such as installing optional storage drivers and language packs and (if needed) full OS component assembly also have to be performed against the Windows image. a Linux distro simply isn't one.

KB5077241 (10.0.26100.7922) contains the WMP version that KB5101650 is trying to upgrade away from.

@jernej__s@infosec.exchange @Rairii@labyrinth.zone Part of me thinks this has to do with the fact that the N editions haven't maintained by MS for so long, that they're only really being held together by duct tape and string to the point that it would be far more sensible to install a regular non-N edition. Hell, early Win11 21H2 builds couldn't even get past the OOBE because the N editions were missing pretty much every media codec that existed... Optional feature installation hasn't improved much in recent years either. The version of the MFP FoD that does get installed from WU is that of the 24H2 RTM base build (10.0.26100.1)...
