I don't want my computer to be non-deterministic. I don't want my car's dash to be a buttonless computer monitor. I don't want surveillance cameras in public places. And most importantly, I don't want Billionaires to control my government.

Got the Sunday Scaries again because corporate software development is absolutely toxic. Has been for a while and is just getting worse. Inhumane, and I use that word literally. The goal is to dehumanize the digital and offline worlds.

@adx @molly0xfff Evidently the first record of a prediction market was dated to the 14th century. 😯 Gambling has been around forever, but it takes a techbro to put it in an app and claim it is therefore ethical and somehow immune to regulation.
I'm a bit concerned about free software as a whole with many maintainers accepting ai coded PRs and using ai to review PRs. We are definitely moving closer to a world with far less accountability. Maybe it's just time to burn all the computers down?

@colincornaby I'm working on this new kind of automation. It's like an LLM, but it's declarative, simple, and get this.. the output is testable, consistent, and so efficient you can run it on an RPI zero! I call it "scripting."

@freya Good luck! I got my start in tech over 20 years ago and was hired as an IT Support Engineer because of my Linux hobby. It does still happen, but the tech industry as a whole is kind of a shitshow at the moment, which you probably already know. Maybe look at smaller companies in NZ that need IT support? That could be a way to get your foot in the door.
