Maker of music and software and some other things. Player of games. Student of irony.

I'm probably not likely to exactly parrot the exact opinion you have without asking difficult questions, making observations out loud, and maybe going on a few tangents. So, maybe it's better if you just block me now for not being exactly like you, instead of doing it later when you're having a bad day.

"'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master — that’s all.'"

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange I have witnessed this at work. The same "hole" in LLM output applies to gender, of course. An LLM will freely exchange "me" and "you" in its output; all it knows is "pronoun goes here in sentence". Although I suspect the lack of LLM gender awareness presents less of a security hole except in certain very specific scenarios :D

@bnys@lasersword.club The only thing holding me back is band members. SMS seems to be the only thing they understand for coordinating rehearsals and gigs, and my T9 is awful. And we all know how fun speech-to-text is. :/ I suppose "mini folding bluetooth keyboard" is an option...

@jonyoder@mstdn.social The expectations are ridiculous. They know it's not intelligence. The "agentic" movement formed in less than a year with the obvious (and now even openly stated) goal of plugging existing tools into a chatbot...to make it look like the LLM is doing something besides language translation. LLMs can just barely be cajoled into calling a tool with the right parameters (fortunately not dissimilar to a language translation task), then the "AI" gets credit for everything the tool did.

@frawst This has been my experience with Linux gaming so far. I put off setting it up because I thought it would be hard, but instead I keep seeing discussion threads of "why are they selling this game that doesn't even run" on games that work out of the box on Wine with zero issues. MS should just port Wine to windows. I guess, in a way, that's what they're doing.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social Spotted in the Kiplinger letter recently (recommended), "Agentic" AI, in quotes, with text talking about the importance of CPUs. Showing that the financial sector, if nobody else, is beginning to understand that "Agentic AI" is workflows largely implemented as hand-coded functions that don't use neural nets in any signifant way whatsoever. Just saying, "Agentic" never really meant anything, but those of us who will be kicked out if we don't ship AI are implementing things that work.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Hmm, the "VPN" aspect of this makes me think this isn't entirely an "AI" (note quotes) related story, except in the sense that "Agentic AI" is 95% just workflows offloaded into MCP scripts. On the third hand, a lot of *those* are vibe coded garbage and so the circle is complete.

I was worried that moving to Linux, I would lose access to all of my old Windows games. The opposite is true: now all of my Windows games play perfectly under Wine, and I would have lost access to most of them if I had stayed on Windows. :P

Talk about self sabotage.

@jonny@neuromatch.social Absolutely agree. "All knowledge in the world" as training for an actual intelligence may arguably be defensible. "All knowledge in the world" encoded with a 900b vector lossy compression algorithm is stealing. proposal: at some quantization/compression level, crappy AI models become fair use, just as unrecognizable samples become "a waveform used in synthesis". Supporting this requires admitting that large LLMs are theft, though...

@cR0w@infosec.exchange Well, yes, and both punching Nazis and destroying Flock are technically against my belief that 1) you have a right to express an opinion without being punched, and 2) private citizens have a right to film what they can see in public. Two examples of how bullies will abuse basic rights, violating the spirit and ruining it, at which point the social/legal construct is invalidated and leaving violence as the only option.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange I like my logic with a floater of consistency. ;) I grew up with "church logic", which is to say "I want to believe it therefore it's true." I reject this no matter how good the intentions. Good intentions alone do not make a good human. Only introspection and considerate application of compassionate beliefs can do that. Er, but I digress. Fucking nazis, we shouldn't have to even think about this, it's been barely half a decade.

OK so I never felt guilty about playing games on my GTX970.. so esp now that I generate more power than I use with solar I dont give two fucks about running some AI shit on my 4070.

this leaves only the "theft" aspect of it. Hmm. I mean at what quantization level does it stop being theft and start being common knowlege?

@cR0w@infosec.exchange With certain types, it's nice to have a large bag of should-be-unnecessary alternate arguments. (This infuriates them.) The weakness: Yes, it's always OK to punch them but this is because we have ample evidence showing that "the nature of the belief will inexorably lead to punching so just do it now". Just having/expressing a stupid-ass belief does not in itself justify punches--to say otherwise is a precedent which pro-nazi types *will* latch onto and abuse. Gotta watch your back. :(

@phillmv@hachyderm.io Well, solar's easy if you have a well lit stretch of roof--some humans show up, tack standoffs onto the roof and attach panels to them. :) Getting approved to attach to the grid, etc, will take much longer than installation. I just had them installed and I suspect the biggest problem is "things wanting to live under them". They usually remove the panels if you need to get your roof redone though. ROI depends on your power company. I have no regrets (so far)

"86" only suggests "killing" if you are a storybook mobster bully.
