@mttaggart@infosec.exchange I would defer to the latest Wine DB tests for a general idea for a particular product. Clip Studio Pro (non Adobe art software) support is getting better, but still a little obnoxious. I suspect Adobe is in a similar state. https://appdb.winehq.org/

@scottwilson@infosec.exchange @thomholwerda@exquisite.social FreeBSD has yet to comment for 2 quarters on their ‘AI’ policy in its entirety and considering their 2025 Q2 comments suggesting they like using LLM for translations, FreeBSD might end up using slop machines for translations despite all the issues LLM created with Wikipedia. If anyone is considering FreeBSD and dislikes LLM usage for things like translations, just be aware an LLM-induced hop could be in your near future unless you submit comments against its use to the governing body at core[@]freebsd.org

@virtualbri The timeline and logistics is bonkers and frustrating. Basically only 3 days to put in a request with work to be able to fly out, figure out flight travel if not local to Ontario and pay for an expensive ticket due to flying out on short notice AND an oil crisis. Then you have to figure out how to ship the thing(s) on your own. Shipping is not available due to tight auction timelines. There will be no exceptions to this policy. This includes any requests or arrangements involving the retrieval, packing, or shipping of items. Examples include, but are not limited to, providing a prepaid shipping label, asking us to pack and ship items on your behalf (even at your expense), or any other method intended to have items delivered.

@airikr @quarknova Discourse has AI features, but these can be disabled. It is very easy to maintain and fight forum spam with speaking as someone who manages an instance. The Taggart Institute recently migrated off of Teachable and Discord to Discourse as an example of a notable org moving off Discord and onto Discourse. Perhaps most importantly, knowledge shared is indexed by search engines for humans to more easily find as compared to Discord

Way more apt a metaphor with ‘AI’ psychosis, stunting basic critical thinking, and other issues created “Childhood lead exposure has devastating lifelong consequences, as even low-level exposure stunts intelligence and leads to delinquent behavior. However, these consequences may be more extensive than previously thought because childhood lead exposure may adversely affect normal-range personality traits. Personality influences nearly every aspect of human functioning, from well-being to career earnings to longevity, so effects of lead exposure on personality would have far-reaching societal consequences.” https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8307752/

If you believe open hardware laptops means open as in punch a Nazi every time they open their mouth and spew bile (as opposed to Framework’s definition of big open tent inclusive of Nazis), I suggest checking out the MNT Reform Next:

https://www.crowdsupply.com/mnt/mnt-reform-next

There’s work on a Wi-Fi 7 chipset (QCS8550) which is the only blocker for me updating my decade old Thinkpad. There’s even collaborative work with folks behind the gay iPod, Tangara! And it has multi-language legend options for their keyboard! Really wish they had Thunderbolt support planned to allow for just plugging in a single cable to a KVM switch, but that’s my only qualm

You can also find the project in the fediverse:
@mntmn@mastodon.social

The year is no longer 2020, it’s 2026 and there are more ethical options out there besides Framework Consider tossing a coin or two MNT’s way

@johannab @FediThing @iftas I would highlight as someone who has grown up on mixi (Japan’s MySpace) and LINE (a hard to explain combination of things like old Facebook and messaging) that they have policies they enforce against the various content being discussed. If one is to draw a cultural social services baseline it should be be with a bigger scope than a few fediverse server operators in much the same way NA/EU based fediverse operators reflect a different view on things compared to Meta and Twitter’s policies and views

This question goes out to #IndieWeb and GeoCities era website lovers: Is there a collection site that allows users to submit and tag blinkies, 88x31, stamps, and so on? I have yet to find one, but the web is large Love the format revival, but it is difficult finding a collection that makes it searchable by tags to quickly find things of interest to throw on one’s site. If one doesn’t exist I suppose I can throw running an image tag DB onto the list of ‘things I will definitely do’

#RetroGaming and supporting devs who create games for said retro consoles grows more important by the day. Similarly, archiving and preservation Fresh on the heels of Sony removing purchased access to more than 500 movies and TV by #PlayStation customers they’ve announced going digital only for gaming. Which is just 2 years after Sony shutting down Funimation’s massive digital library. https://www.polygon.com/sony-playstation-physical-discs-ending/ https://movieweb.com/sony-deleting-digital-movies-shows-playstation-library/ https://www.howtogeek.com/funimation-is-shutting-down-and-wiping-users-digital-libraries/

#Apple: What if instead of using our resources to finally add ANT+ and Bluetooth sensor support to the Workout app for sports like running and cycling, we had our watch ‘ambiently’ pick up conversation around watch holders throughout the day and summarize it? Surely after the pervert glasses discourse this is the best use of resources rather than close the feature gap with fitness watches. #Privacy
