@Ms_nitro@mastodon.praxis.red if you're already self-hosting, I think you'd have a blast at @lansing2600@mastodon.praxis.red meetings.

@simonzerafa@infosec.exchange @evacide@hachyderm.io I think you mean "anonymity" rather than "privacy". No corporation is immune to legal compulsion. If you link a credit card to an account of any type, it will show up in all kinds of metadata via credit card companies and data brokers, and the banking records will forever deanonymize the account.
So yes, pay for a ProtonMail account with CC if you want, but use a free one if you want *anonymity* in addition to privacy.

#System76's Carl Richell laying out the realities of the new age verification laws in #Colorado and #California: https://blog.system76.com/post/system76-on-age-verification
"Most System76 employees installed operating systems and created accounts on their computer when they were under 18. They did this out of curiosity. Many started writing software. Some were already writing operating systems. [...] Limiting a child’s ability to explore what they can do with a computer limits their future."

@lasombra_br@mas.to @evacide@hachyderm.io you'd think so, but a surprising amount of people don't realize a credit card immediately deanonymizes whatever they pay for with a card.

@kagihq@mastodon.social Congratulations on your milestone. I'm hopeful for a Linux release soon so I can try Orion on a privacy-respecting OS.

@asterisk@social.linux.pizza @marti@social.martiabernathey.com @dansup@mastodon.social this sounds like a deep misconception about the goals of these projects and a key pillar of fediverse resilience: separation of concerns and proliferation of services and instances of those services. The thing you think is a bug is actually an incredibly desirable feature. It keeps us safe from One Ring to Rule Them All.

@dynom@toot.community @evacide@hachyderm.io downplaying what Jeffrey Epstein was to "convicted rapist" is like calling Facebook a "website where people talk". Don't be a jerkoff.

@BenAveling@infosec.exchange @faraiwe@mstdn.social this question is a fascinating tell. With it, you have suggested that all humans lack conscience, empathy, or sufficient character and ethical maturity to behave responsibly toward their community even when they could behave harmfully with little-to-no personal consequence. You may want to get checked for ASPD.

@EmZaid@infosec.exchange do both local and Google DNS give the same records? My hunch is they don't and Google DNS is sending you to a nearby CDN.

@midtsveen@kolektiva.social @luckychronic@mastodon.social @nsf_iaa@snabelen.no that's okay. I've been organizing and building community for 40 years and am used to people disagreeing with me. If you want to discuss more you know where to find me.

And redirect it to DNS over TLS via quad9.net, since they are pretty solid! On Android, you can also set up custom private DNS to point to tls://quad9.net .

@luckychronic@mastodon.social @midtsveen@kolektiva.social @nsf_iaa@snabelen.no you don't disagree with me at all. Life happens where and how it does. It is contextual and ephemeral. It obeys no Platonic solids of belief, despite what the conceptual mind may try to argue. Do what gets you and your communities closer to liberation, health, and happiness.

@JamesBaker are you open to a little discussion about this or nah? The teachers I've been hearing from have some reasonable concerns about the effect short-form content and generative AI are having on cognitive development.

@midtsveen@kolektiva.social @luckychronic@mastodon.social @nsf_iaa@snabelen.no you can just do both. Hard line ideology is masturbatory and delusional when it gets in the way of liberation. Electoral politics is like dumpster diving, one tool in the kit of an adapting and evolving human living in radical agency. Use it when it would help, don't when it wouldn't.
