For some unknown reason I have an earworm of the ancient song “Indicate the route to my abode”, a parody version of “Show me the way to go home”. I haven’t heard anyone sing it for decades but my brain decided to dig it out. The Pixie Coat has been so good that I’m making another version in lighter weight fabric for summer! Today I started cutting out, with Minnie’s ‘help’ 🐾 As I explained in another thread, I thrifted the fabric from Stitch Kitchen. It was originally used for Air New Zealand uniforms in the 1970s and 80s. Someone kept a big bolt of leftover fabric and decades later I’m using some of it! #sewing

Anyway this has made me curious. Do people even know these songs still? 🤔 This calls for a poll! Do you know the song ‘Show me the way to go home’ and/or a parody version?

As the time to pay the annual domain fee approaches, I’m considering deleting my blog. I haven’t posted on it for over 2 years! Due to fatigue it’s unlikely I’ll want to post during the next couple of years - it’s always been a thing I do occasionally when I feel like it, but it requires mental energy. I started it in 2015. There are only 22 posts, but they are mostly quite long. Topics are varied, including some history things, my breast cancer experiences, being car free, and quite a few on books I’ve enjoyed. There’s some good stuff there - if I’m allowed to say that myself! - but it doesn’t get many views now. The most popular post is about my project to read all the winners of the Hugo Award for best SFF novel. If I get the urge to blog again I can start a new one, and maybe recycle some of my old posts on that. #blogging

@paulh@cloudisland.nz That was a remarkable project - a really groundbreaking and internationally-acclaimed use of all sorts of data to measure social mobility. Several generations of Otago history students will remember their first brush with statistical analysis on that data! Also, as you say, a goldmine for family historians.

I’m sad to learn of the death of one of this country’s best historians, Erik Olssen. A great researcher, writer and teacher and also a very nice person. RIP. I finished my 2nd pair of leftover socks! These ones used the remnants of 5 different types of sock wool - all the bright ones 😆 The stash of leftovers is a lot smaller now, but should be enough for another pair, maybe even 2. #knitting

I just emailed my power company, Ecotricity, to express my annoyance at their cheerful introduction of a new AI chatbot assistant. Their whole shtick is about being fully renewable and climate positive (though of course they’re now part of one of the bigger power companies so we have to take that far less seriously than we once could). Energy-greedy AI does not sit well with that ethos. I’m sure they won’t take much notice of my views, but maybe other customers will contact them too. #AI #energy
