@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social he didn't wager $1B. He bought options on $1B worth of shares.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange The organization Strong Towns talks a ton about this. It's not just that people undervalue nice things. It's that most towns in North America are broke because of development patterns that started 80 years ago (car centric sprawl).

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange This trend started around 2000 when Craigslist took away all the classified ad revenue from papers. But 2015, most of the damage was already done

I just got a recruitment message from a company in SF, Density, making these kind of tracking devices...

Thanks for this thread. Truly dystopian

@NunavutBirder@mas.to you probably have some Milwaukee batteries already. People do sell battery adapters, so that you can use all those Milwaukee batteries on Makita tools and such. Might be useful

@signalapp@mastodon.world

If we donate in the app, do you get 100% or does Google/Apple take a cut?

I think there's an issue...
(Used once) + (Still in use) ≠ 100%

What about used more than once and then disposed?

Ever since Bluebeam stopped offering Revu (a really great PDF makeup tool) with a perpetual license, I've been looking for an alternative that also allows you to flatten AND UNflatten your doc. So far, no luck!

I was very interested in your definition of national debt. It's very different than how I've understood it and your explanation provided interesting insights. But, I looked up the amount of US currency issued (about 2.5T) and the size of the debt (about 35T) and found a ~14:1 difference. Am I missing something?

ABC cancelled Kimmel, and I cancelled my subscription.

They brought him back, and I restarted mine.

You can't just punish bad behavior. You can't become politically powerful by labeling anyone who isn't pure as your enemy. You also need to forgive and reward good behavior. That is good politics and it is how you win allies and elections.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange hornets are easy to manage if you don't feel like waiting for a pro:

Wait until night when they're all home and not very active. Then spray the entrance with insect spray. There's stuff you can buy that sprays like a 10ft stream so you don't have to get close. Just cover the entrance with the stuff. If they're still around the next day, repeat.

There's also a whole YouTube genre of people killing these in different ways. It's a pretty interesting corner of YT, feeding some kind of reptilian revenge instinct against these insects in the most creative ways.

Good luck!

I just misread "clusterfuck" as "cybertruck" and discovered a new eggcorn

If you're near San Francisco, Lighthouse for the Blind

Mmm, love to have a Jewish story shoved in my face by a goy.

Has there ever been a musician who kept their identity hidden via masks or never appearing in public, that later was discovered to be a celebrity with a reputation that would not suggest their current success?

Imagine it being discovered that
Daft Punk was actually the Olsen twins

What a miraculous turn of events... For the universe to create itself. Space and time, then matter... Particles, then different configurations of particles... Elements, molecules... Galaxies, solar systems, planets... Oceans, mountains... Life!!! Then ecosystems, populations, evolution... Bacteria, plants, fungi, and animals... Then mammals, primates, humanoids... Finally, consciousness!!! The universe understanding itself! And still more. Tribes, language, culture... Writing, civilization... Invention, creativity, discovery... Modern civilization as we know it!

All of that so that you can spend an afternoon with your friends playing Mario Kart.

@infobeautiful@vis.social I've worked in PV manufacturing. The reason you don't see these kinds of complexities is not because nobody has tried. It's that they don't make financial sense.

When you say "efficiency", you're probably thinking W/m². But the real number that matters is kWhr/$. Panels are supposed to last about 20 years outdoors. Putting them on a moving mount means installing a lot of mechanical hardware that greatly increases BOM costs, installation costs, and maintenance costs. With panels as cheap as they are, better to install a few more panels at a suboptimal angle to get the same power output.
