I couldn’t recall the name of the Supreme Master, founder of the Quan Yin method, franchiser of vegan restaurants that uses a rather memorable yellow in some of their branding, various other accolades. So I searched for “vegan cult,” and was rather amused that the first hits were for the Zizians, a branch of rationalist that identify as “vegan anarchotranshumanists,” and linked to six murders, so far.

Good stuff, happy to see that the phrase is now more likely to be associated with effective altruist weirdos than cheap, good food (with a side of cult TV as background noise).

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au @damonism@aus.social @futzle@old.mermaid.town SMIC is trying their hardest to catch-up while building fab capacity, but the lithography bottleneck is real, and there it’s Canon and Nikon that are trying their best to catch-up. But the thing that would have an immediate effect is to use the existing non-leading edge process capacity for the 95% of the tech that we actually use. But that doesn’t make line go up.

Hrmm, a Superloop CGNAT IP seems to have been added to some blocklist (Akamai EdgeSuite at minimum). A client can’t access BigW, Kmart, Coles through the app, and Centrelink/Services Australia. Their support is being painful and blaming DNS when it’s resolving fine and the errors are 401s, so I guess I’ll need to contact the EdgeSuite customers individually.

@farbel @veronica @mrundkvist Haa, yes, but sorta no. Aviation in China uses metric flight levels, but for safety considerations now uses an adapted imperial flight levels between 8900–12500m.

@veronica @farbel @mrundkvist I’ll concede knots and nautical miles as they’re based on arc segments and genuinely useful for long distance travel on a sphere, but the use of feet for altitude is an aspect of American imperialism that absolutely sticks in my craw.

@mdm @lproven @blogdiva An exclusionary joke is an exclusionary joke, a joke about age doesn’t have to be an exclusionary joke. I don’t know how old the original post/joke is, but with multiple age verification systems being implemented around the world, the joke goes beyond exclusionary towards actively punching down. If you can’t handle some mild criticism about a joke, maybe go meditate.

@12@eightpoint.app @ipg@wetdry.world Ah, pardon me. Plex comes as a server that hosts the database and a web app, or you can point a player app at it. The various kiosk systems use a similar architecture, so I was working on building something that’d allow me to use cheap secondhand hardware for various clients.

Watching bugalugs (22 this year), who’d previously only played open world games, finish Bastion in a single weekend, complete with sobbing when they realised what the ending meant, was a formative parenting moment for me.

@kwf@social.afront.org I think they're optional guides to ensure the lasers hit the prisms correctly as the placement of the optics doesn’t look to be very precise. If you’re cutting costs you could have a human on the assembly line placing them as well as they can and the additional lenses are only added if they don’t pass QA.
