Engineer who converts solder, Ethernet cables, and firmware into entertainment.
Went to drop off $860 in dimes to the bank, and they didn't have enough trays to handle that many and had to resort to rubber bands.
But they remembered I'm the same joker who brought in $200 in Nickels last week and had my boxes to give back to me, so that's nice that I got the cardboard boxes back for another batch.
My new house has 10G Internet, but the ONT hands it off as 10GbaseT, so I'm faced with the challenge of figuring out what router I want to use to enable that while somehow avoiding being responsible for installing and managing my own NOS on a miniPC.
What started as me giving my dad an EcoFlow Delta 3 for Father's Day has evolved into spending a day with him installing EMT on the south side of the house so his playing with solar panels to power the office doesn't need to involve him crawling under the house anymore.
I just wanted him to have a way to keep the fridge running if the power went out.
Do you want to get better at programming while interacting with APIs with some hands-on practice?
BOY have I got the game for you! https://spacetraders.io/
On the phone with support for my brokerage account, and he needed to ask me one of my security questions. "What is your favorite locomotive?"
Didn't phase him one bit that I had a specific favorite locomotive. Can't image how bizarre those security questions get when you can fill in both the questions and the answers.
An argument about how rice isn't the best thing we have in the house for saving a phone dropped in the sink devolved into my girlfriend wanting to know why the hell I'm cooking pink and blue beads in the air fryer.
To be clear, the phone dropped in the sink was entirely hypothetical; no phones were in need of dessication.
I got to play with a pair of DGX Sparks for work this week, with the 200Gbps Ethernet RDMA link between them.
They're very cute, and they make running 120B parameter AI models locally on your desktop very pleasant and easy. I haven't quite figured out what their killer app is yet, but they're very cute.
The world cup block watch party was fire last night.
Well that was an expensive roll of cents from the bank.
If you were to ask me if I would pay 5¢ or 10¢ to buy a random foreign coin, would I?
Absolutely not.
But when I find one in a roll of coins, I'm stoked. Explain that.
Feels good. Finally found the 1971 (P) to complete my Roosevelt volume 2 book.
Another friendly set of tellers at a new bank who were all shocked and amazed that I was withdrawing coins to just... look at them. They had never heard that coins used to be made with silver; that was completely news to them.
Good morning, except to the people who documented SCPI.
Buying some foreign coins at a coin shop while on vacation, and handed him a presidential dollar coin when I was checking out.
"God! I hate these gold dollar coins! I always worry about them getting mixed into the display case!"
Guess it's a good thing I didn't pay with Kennedys. #ProjectHalfDollarChaos
Through a series of events I ended up with the disk array that was hosting the Vger VM for the LKML, and instead of getting them slabbed and sold as #Linux history collectibles, I wiped them and gave them to a coworker to get them out of my office.
Feel like this might have been a missed opportunity.
Am I stoked about the idea of a $2.50 coin? Absolutely.
Am I surprised that the year 2026 somehow snuck up on Congress and we've made it to April and they're still working on passing instructions to the mint to think about it? Absolutely not.

If there's any coin that would convince me to start a lowball collection, holy crap this one is beautiful. https://www.reddit.com/r/coins/comments/1se3epa/my_quarter_came_back_today/
Mailing some coins to Australia, and boy howdy has it been a long time since I've needed to assemble postage from multiple stamps.
A lot of coin collecting is having every coin EXCEPT the single rarest in the book and just looking for that 2009-D.
Oof. I think today's batch of nickels I picked up from the bank is another collectors dump. Every wrap is the same with the exact same folding, and there isn't a single interesting coin in the first 10 rolls I checked. 😞
I get that it's wheelchair accessible, but it kind of sucks for the two old guys trying to play chess who have to either make sure to bring their own chair or one of them is standing.
My penny guardhouse box got full, so I pulled a coffee can's worth of brown copper cents out of it to free up room for future additions.
