@jamesb@fedi.duckduckpigeon.co.uk @Edent@mastodon.social I had to do a chargeback for AliExpress once (they sent ~12 items in one order but had billed each individually so additional fun) after Yodel put it in a parcel locker but wouldn't provider the locker details so I could retrieve it.

@KimSJ @digitalraven Alas, I've heard that whilst the memory chips themselves are the same the surface-mounted boards are different to conventional PCs so would need reflowing/desoldering and then manually resoldering to new boards (which are normally done by pick'n'place machines which require the chips to be on sheets). I suspect even if the AI boards are "sold" at 1/4 price the resulting sticks will still be higher priced than they were a few months ago.

@frank @ripper @th @ErinRose UK sockets have a little plastic (normally closed) shutter over the live/neutral holes: the only way to open them is by pushing the end of a lever inside the earth/ground hole at the top (which is why, on UK plugs, the earth pin is slightly longer than the other two: it's also at a different orientation to help reduce accidental unpluggings and attempts to use the plug the wrong way round)

@signalapp Why not change the message to "To setup Signal on your new phone, please enter code ..." to make it absolutely clear what the code is for and create additional friction for scammers as they'll have to come up with an excuse as to why it says new phone.

"Oh hai, here is our API documentation detailing the layout of every data type and the ontology."
"Thanks - I'm ready to start testing"
"Oh yeah, our actual API uses and returns none of those records: totally different data in different formats".
Argh!

@dgar@aus.social I once took over a project which had a "password must be unique" configuration (it didn't show which user it was though). One of the first things I replaced in it.

@TechConnectify Thanks very much for this! For years I wondered how they worked (but not enough to remind myself to look it up) and had thought they were just colored lights (hadn't occurred to me they might be CRTS) and wondered "how the hell do they make the picture"

@nekoow7@mastodon.social I've had Pneumonia at least twice (with about 3 lots of bronchitis before that) - your stats looks quite good tbh (I'm *averaging* 95% O2 atm: dips of down to 90% - it's been about 6 years since my last pneumonia but Covid hit my lungs bad). Just rest when your body tells you to (and even when it doesn't - fatigue can be a sneaky SOAB) and keep taking the pills and fluids and good luck. Sorry can't help financially, but I've been unable to work since Covid as fatigue is too high :(

New to #Mastodon? Just think about it as "instant public email" - like email you use the full address (including the @ domain name/instance) when contacting somebody else, you can communicate with other domains/instances from any other (bar blocklists/spamlists) and you could just have one email account/Mastodon account in the world or multiple dependent on preference (work, social, special interests etc).

@Avitus @signalapp True, but at least you would be expecting it and the prompt would make some sense: if it was someone malicious saying "We r Signal, plz confirm the security codez" and the message said "To install on a new phone" I hope most people would question the message.

Just got a reminder for a telephone call at 10.30am this morning: shame it's already gone 2pm and I've had the call.

Now just to decide if the "new project" should be written in PHP using Slim (which I know), PHP using Symfony/Laravel (neither of which I know well and dislike Laravel), Node.js (which I don't know) or something else. Learning something new would be good, but I also want to get the project done "this year".

Just having to up the memory of my "borrowed from my wife" desktop Windows machine to try and do some development work and putting my old-failed machines RAM in it worked until the last stick.. The stick I kept testing my old machine with when it had failed and refused to get beyond POST...

Please don't say a failed stick of RAM is the cause of over a week of stress.

All of yesterday (and most of the previous day), my Google Pixel 6a mobile phone kept randomly rebooting (sometimes without interaction). So I ordered a replacement Pixel 10a which arrived at 10.30am this morning. My old phone has operated without any issues whatsoever since 9.30am...
