@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world It’s just more of Poilievre’s consistent strategy, make an ignorant misinformed statement to find the Canadian’s either willfully ignorant or pathetically naive to give it credence. Herd this person into the media ecosystem that supports him. Continue to feed them ignorance anger and prejudice, monitor and automate to find just the right ugly spin to hold their attention and gain more support. He’s relied on that anger and outrage of the American right and spun this for Canadian outrage, but America outrage is becoming even too extreme for the angry ignorant Canadian. I suspect he wants Carney’s Europe integration to be successful in order to harness the European far right outrage and ignorance and respin to gain support in Canada. How many Canadians will take the bait?

@cwebber@social.coop reminds of Canadian agriculture, with all the highly integrated multinational service and supply corporations set up to be as profitable as possible, the individual farm organization is now setup to take all the risks. It’s the farmer that will fail, none of the corporations setup to profitize from this. It’s the pathetic human “programmer” setup to take the fail. AI is guaranteed to remain profitable.

The Staple Trap "Canada has become a rich country and a middle power, but one with consistent underlying vulnerability and lack of sovereignty.. Canada’s political economy is characterized by a longstanding struggle to develop systems of complementary technology and industries against the pull of resource extraction lock-in, referred to as the “staple trap.”1 The trap is set by resource extraction developments that require large, fixed cost infrastructures and the installation of other “rigidities” such as monopolies and political interests with influence over regional economies and political decision making. The dependent situation of regional economies on globally traded resources leaves them particularly vulnerable to shifts in international commodity prices or the political decisions made by empires in the world. External events create periods of crisis, and these crises appear particularly unexpected and severe.. This reaction further strengthens the conditions for the staple trap – more large, fixed-cost infrastructure that must be paid off, the creation of monopoly interests, and dependencies on global empires to buy raw material exports.. both governments and capitalists sought protection in megaprojects rather than a more evolutionary development pattern that uses innovative technologies to develop diverse economies." https://perspectivesjournal.ca/megaprojects-staple-trap/

“Since the 1970s, Vancouver has tripled its total number of housing units. If adding housing supply and new density to a city leads to affordable housing as many now contend, Vancouver should have the lowest housing prices in North America. It has the highest!” Every policy that suggests just build more houses, just remove zoning restrictions, just reduce municipal development fees, just cut taxes, to solve the housing cost crisis will fail. The problem is housing as a vehicle for profit limits housing success to only the wealthiest. Austria’s Limited Profit Housing Association legislation offers an alternative that keeps affordable housing out of the speculative market and reduces rent in for profit housing #cdnpoli https://thetyee.ca/Culture/2024/07/19/Patrick-Condon-Why-Housing-Costs-So-High/ https://climateandcommunity.org/research/vienna-green-social-housing/ https://www.bmwet.gv.at/en/Topics/CulturalHeritage/HousingPolicy.html https://www.kuntarahoitus.fi/en/who-we-finance/affordable-social-housing

“Canada, as a country familiar with Trump’s economic extortion, needs to step up. We are a rich country watching a poorer country in our hemisphere face imperial aggression from a common foe. We helped build many of the institutions of international law and global diplomacy that should avert this kind of bullying. We are awash in political capital which we seem unwilling to spend. We have a capable navy and ample oil. And, most relevant, we have a 66 year record of defying American blockades against Cuba.

It will anger the White House, no doubt — as have our wildfires and our audacious decision to maintain our own sovereign economy. Too bad. Trump’s delusions cannot keep dictating our foreign policy.” <-Justin Ling

Limited profit housing collaborations, how would it work? Municipalities work to support the infrastructure & local policy. Right of first refusal for limited profit? Their payback increased residents and higher taxpayer base. How do they contribute financially? Employee groups. Members get access to this less costly housing, How do they contribute? Payback - lower housing costs. Business groups, their employees agree to a marginally lower compensation, that matches the lower housing costs, but only if and when their employees _choose_ to live in collaborative housing. Payback - lower labour costs. How do they contribute? If everyone played nice it has potential, but what if they don't. What policy and legalese is needed? Who holds the ownership, who has the authority & governance? Canmore is already doing something like this. It's service/tourist based industry relies on employees having affordable housing, For-profit housing is too expensive It's limited to people either working or running a business within Canmore. https://www.canmorehousing.ca/about-us/

Tumbler Ridge School shooting "Van Rootselaar [the shooter] told ChatGPT about the account ban, noting she had specified “a famous real-world mall as the target” and herself as the perpetrator, but also claiming the scenario hadn’t been real. In response, ChatGPT explained why such violent content would be flagged—and then offered tips on how to evade its own safeguards.. If local authorities already concerned about her behavior and mental health had been alerted to the chats, the strong signs of suicidality and attack planning might have prompted intervention." https://www.motherjones.com/media/2026/09/chatgpt-tumbler-ridge-mass-shooter-openai/
