Yesterday was "new macbook" day for me. The new macbook is spectacularly good. Unfortunately, it was also necessarily new Mac OS day. The new Mac OS is aggravating so far. I'm sure I'll adapt.

I happened to visit the django project site today, and saw that the JetBrains fundraiser had been extended further.
Out of curiosity, I clicked (even though I'm on the all products pack) and didn't really expect it to work. But the failure mode might be especially undesirable... it offered to convert my all products subscription to a pycharm pro one, at a cost of $0 and pro-rating my renewal out an amount of time that roughly matched the difference between pycharm pro and all products.
I doubt that's good for anyone.
I'd really like to renew my all products pack (since I still use several of the non-pycharm ones) early and get the pycharm portion of that credited to DSF.
I assume this is just a suggestion for next time at this point. Thanks for arranging such a cool fundraiser!
@webology@mastodon.social It's so cool that JetBrains added renewals to the Django fundraiser this year. Do Toolbox renewals count, too? Or is there a way to make them count? I'd totally renew my Toolbox subscription early this year if it earned some money for DSF.
RE: @crankylinuxuser@infosec.exchange
As a younger Gen X, I had a friend in college who used to carry a camcorder many places. I remember (gently) scolding him for it, saying things along the lines of "damn, no one who parties with you is ever going to be able to run for office." The only reason that wasn't literally true was because tapes were expensive and he reused them constantly.
It was not lost on me that only a few years later, his work would have gone on social media in near real time rather than getting taped over during the next event, after we all had a good laugh about our hijinks.
He'd have especially loved the lack of ports, @gruber@mastodon.social
(Less flippantly, I don't think he'd have loved the unlabeled difference between the two USB-C ports on the machine. I kind of wonder whether he'd have let it out the door with that difference. But I think you're 100% right that he'd have loved the idea of this machine.)

@schwa@mastodon.social Good luck! A prescription for a sedative from the vet helped us a ton when we needed to impose bedrest on our large, energetic hound.
For fuck's sake, indeed. And those restaurants will use glue to keep the cheese on their pizza, I'm sure.
This looks really neat. It's been a thing I've had on my backlog for a minute, and haven't gotten around to, yet. Looking forward to trying it out:
@LGUG2Z@hachyderm.io Wow. Thank you for sharing, and I threw up in my mouth a little reading that!
I might steal "Not My Fault As A Service".
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io If you're having vibe troubles, I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a clanker ain't one.
@daringfireball@mastodon.social it'd be pretty nice if this could land on someone's radar before it became real:

> There’s something really wrong with SwiftUI. Amongst the apps I use, the best example is Apple Journal. Basic stuff that’s worked reliably for decades — some things that heretofore had worked forever — are dangerously broken. If you’re running MacOS 26 Tahoe, open Journal and make a new dummy entry. Type something like “The quick brown fox.” Then double-click on the word “brown” and delete it. Now invoke Undo.
@daringfireball@mastodon.social I've noticed this behavior on a few mac apps lately. I bet SwiftUI explains it all; I was assuming (without checking) that they were electron just based on the number of papercuts.
I just took a call from some system that I can only assume was powered by an LLM. It was an attempt to collect personal financial details, claiming that you had applied for some loan.
It was obvious from the first sentence it uttered that I was not talking to a human.
I wasted at least two or three minutes worth of its tokens by deflecting its questions and attempting to get it to connect me to its supervisor.
I kind of hope it calls back. It was, in some measure, satisfying to call it different variations of "stupid fucking clanker" repeatedly until it hit its token limit and disconnected.
@aks@scalie.zone I didn't think it had gotten to me, and that is absolutely not the reason for my break, but not reading every line that goes across the channel and the off-topic channel lately has helped me feel a little less doomed.
(My break is just from being busy, and having less time behind the keyboard for a bit.)
