I just borked my server doing a reboot. "Why haven't I rebooted this thing in over 100 days?" Thats why. Ugh. Now trying to debug on a 8" screen. Im old and this is REALLY hard even with glasses.

I involuntarily flinch when I get requests like "Who can build me a database?" I KNOW this request is going to be WAY more, and I also know that no one else is going to help them.
Just to add to my insane home networking difficulties, right now I am online, all clients are working / routing to the internet. Can I connect to OPNsense via HTTP or SSH? Nope. The box just ignores me. I can log in locally and all is fine. WTF? I started a radio stream as a "test" and now poking around, some stuff loads, some doesn't, like 1/2 the internet is out. WTF? (again)

Who knows about payphone keys? I need to remove this from the wall. Its long dead. Even has a nice sign that says "Scheduled for removal" dated in the 2000s. I have a coin box key that doesn't fit, but I have none of these side of phone keys.

Does anyone still use MP3 players? Can you recommend a small audio player that will work with Linux? I can blindly buy one off amazon but hoping someone had a suggestion. I had one about the size of a matchbook, had 64G of music and I wore it cutting the lawn. I forget the brand but It broke last year and I didn't replace it yet. I like a portable player that doesn't rely on my phone, a subscription, or cellular/internet for streaming.
Got a 3 node ProxMox cluster and PegaProx running on some old hardware at work. Its very nice, better than I had hoped even. Even with the Ceph storage so its like a tiny hyperconverged.
A few years ago I opened a ticket with the company help desk about a problem, only to have it routed through 3 others and then back TO me with a note "see ticket." If I could solve the issue, why would I open a ticket? Today was one of the days that made me remember that ticket. If I come to you with a problem, asking for help, it means I can't fix it on my own.
What I don't understand with all this age verification stuff in systemd and other places is, if I want to know how old a person is on my software/website, why would I ask the OS?

@selea I've seen 1U 15" deep super micro servers go for less than $100 US around here. 16G, 600GB SATA. They are a few years older but would run OPNsense great (depending on your needs) My home OPNsense is running a fanless Celeron PC I picked up for a little less than $300. Not sure what the prices look like now.

I started to write "The snowblower hit a rock" as if the snowblower had autonomy and did it all by itself. Its no fault of MIINE, no way. I have to replace a sheer pin but I'm soaking wet so taking a tea break and changing into dry things before i go finish up the driveway. #blizzard2026

@alice@lgbtqia.space Sadly opposite side of the country :-) It was a crazy day so I didn't get good pictures, so I'm not sure the model. Next week I'll try to get better pictures and see if I can find any markings. I'm guessing late 80s early 90s as it had the "Loud" button on the top left, which I dont remember from earlier phones.

I expected an ID on the key way I could match to a key and pick up on ebay or something, but no such luck. Worst case, I cut the wall around it ;-) Its coming out one way or another! ⚒️

@thomasdorr@mastodon.social Thats my goal. So far, it seems to be assuming that I can make it work with my fiber channel storage. Since I really dont want to buy new hardware. The only reason I am messing with Ceph is because I am running on some old hardware as a test.

I used this as reference when teaching Bash and would recommend students picked up a copy. Anyone using cloud storage (in a SMB type space)? I have been using Wasabi for years, and would highly recommend them. Purchasing has decided they don't like the Terms&Conditions of the newest contract and are refusing to do the renewal. So I have to find an alternative. 100TB, "hot access" wasabi calls it, basically online/anytime access. I know Glacier is cheap but uh, no.

@selea I should have clarified, I didn't mean the Xeon ones! They have celleron and i3s. I have a celleron one that was rebaged by a vendor. I repurposed it and it's been great. I ripped the front cover off though.
