Some thoughts on Eleventy becoming Build Awesome. https://nathanupchurch.com/blog/eleventy-becomes-build-awesome/ #eleventy #11ty #buildAwesome #webDev #indieWeb
Hey @DivineIntentions@mastodon.social - respectfully, could you please stop clogging up the #incense hashtag with ads?
The google pagespeed tool drives me nuts. Like, how on earth is my 21.7 KiB homepage taking over two seconds to load? It also knocked off points for the anti-AI directives in my robots.txt, and it complains about my self-hosted webfonts. Not that google would appreciate it at all if I let them track my site visitors by using their font hosting service, eh? #webdev #indieweb
I’ve had enough of this heatwave, thanks. You can stop now.
As a kid I really had no idea just how useful algebra was going to be. Like, want to ferment a vegetable? Calculate your salt with s=(s+w+p)r where w is water weight, p is produce weight, and r is salt ratio. I feel like if we had had projects that required us to use the stuff we were learning I would have been much more interested. I might be doing this stuff on paper today instead of using the numeric solver on my calculator. #math #algebra
Warm breezes curl through
Newly opened windows, yet
Ice binds tender grass
On this (https://werd.io/the-honest-truth-about-leaders-who-want-to-replace-their-workers-with-ai/); trying to foist #AI onto workers who are *already* very productive—the ones who know how to use a pivot table & VLOOKUP, how to automate processes using scripts, et cetera—is a great way to lose your best people.
P.S. Lord does it suck to share links on #Mastodon. Markdown syntax support when?
I reviewed three natural, whole-botanical incense varieties from The World Makes Scents. #incense #blog #review #fragrance

It is just me, or is anyone else facing a deluge of reading comprehension issues when trying to communicate with others these days? Like, I can write things clearly, in plain language, multiple times, with bullet points, and folk still aren't getting it. What is going on?!
Mefjus’ “Manifest” is a hell of an album. No one puts out such pristinely produced tracks as Drum and Bass artists. #music #DnB #D&B #DrumAndBass
For any drum and bass heads out there: Unglued just released a new single on Hospital Records and it's a banger. https://unglueddnb.bandcamp.com/album/who-dis

"The only trait that consistently predicted objections to remote work was narcissism" No surprise there!

Hey @robb@social.lol , I'm trying to follow your 11ty / PageFind tutorial and I'm running into some errors. Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
1. Error in your Eleventy config file 'eleventy.config.js'. (via EleventyConfigError)
2. There was a problem importing 'eleventy.config.js' via import(esm) (via EleventyImportError)
3. require is not defined in ES module scope, you can use import instead
Anyone know how to use commonjs plugins with an ESM config in #eleventy / #11ty? I am using import for everything, but there's one plugin that I'd like to use that is still using commonjs. Specifically: https://www.npmjs.com/package/eleventy-plugin-nesting-toc?activeTab=readme
Some 91% of republicans think that I'm not American, despite being born a citizen. Explains a lot about how I was treated in Texas. https://www.ctinsider.com/columnist/article/philip-bump-family-history-what-makes-american-22326156.php #uspol
I wound up having to do this:
import childProcess from "child_process";
eleventyConfig.on("eleventy.after", () => {
childProcess.execSync(npx pagefind --site _site --glob "**/*.html", {
encoding: "utf-8",
});
});
"Childcare is too expensive" Well yes, but also, why has childcare become so normalized as a need in the first place? Why is a single income rarely enough?
I wrote something uncharacteristically personal and political this time; I feel like there are probably an awful lot of people out there who can see themselves in this. https://nathanupchurch.com/blog/the-trauma-of-employment/ #blog #writing
With respect, who designs these things? Do people really want to walk around looking like they've strapped an alien onto their wrist?
I wish that before companies bolted-on AI assistants to their products, they first considered whether they have been neglecting basic quality of life features like fuzzy search, trimming whitespace from inputs, good info hierarchy and discoverability, etc. Like, if your software is a labyrinth full of foot-guns, of course people are going to want a magic lamp.
Another banger from Vegan Horizon. This "ultra processed foods" lark drives me nuts. Like, what does it even mean?!

Apropos of nothing; if you require a degree for a role that doesn't strictly need it (E.G., not a doctor, engineer, et cetera.) you're not an equal opportunity employer. #paperCeiling #classism
Things I would do if I didn't have to work. https://nathanupchurch.com/blog/what-would-you-do-if-you-didnt-have-to-work/ #blog #fullyAutomatedLuxuryGaySpaceCommunism
You ever notice how critiques of capitalism are critiques of capitalism itself, whereas critiques of communism are almost exclusively about things that are not inherent to communism? Like, you can do communism without authoritarianism. You can't do capitalism without alienation, monopoly, and a huge underclass of poor people to exploit.
Naturally, in the current political climate I certainly don't mean to publicly critique capitalism, but it sure is interesting to think about, isn't it?
