For those keeping score at home, I successfully outsmarted the problem not long after my prior toot.
tldr: Windows had gotten into an unbootable state. After a clean install it wanted to apply updates, but the first cumulative update it wanted to do kept hanging at 35% with the mobo showing various flavors of RAM failure. Lots of troubleshooting later, we finally did a fresh install from newer media (ie, we started from AFTER the bad CU) and all was well.

@ryancheley@mastodon.social I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but I’m glad you got screened and that the prognosis is optimistic.
Definitely the right move to not plan on attending conferences for a bit — my dad went through radiation for his prostate cancer last year and while it seems to have worked (yay!) he was pretty wiped out by the end of treatment.
Sending you good vibes, best wishes, and hopes for many glimmers.

@ericwastl@hachyderm.io I think these are wise choices. When I was doing AoC early on I got into unhealthy patterns and by the end of 25 days wasn’t much fun for my family. After two or theee years I burned out and stopped participating.

@xavdid@mastodon.social Periodic sleep regressions are normal. Check out a book called The Wonder Weeks; it was a big help for us during the big cognitive leaps that messed up sleep.

@xavdid@mastodon.social what I was not prepared for was the outright rebellion from 4mo to 8mo that our daughter waged, in which she refused to sleep without being held. This is outside of the whole milestone thing unfortunately. It was a bleak period, with constant daytime drowsiness; I even had vivid audio hallucinations of the baby crying, so even if she was fine I would still hear her all the time.
