@tdelmas @galaxis @Gargron Google Maps keeps asking if I want to “navegar a la página principal” — go to the homepage—after I drop a friend off. I understand that in some contexts, that’s how “go home” is translated, but…no.

Seeing #GaelicStorm at the Annapolis Irish Festival

We have been rickrolled.

Pat (singer) “We have 15 albums and no hits. Do you know how hard that is? Even Rick Astley has a hit.”

Parker (guitarist) started playing it.
Pat: “how the hell do you know that song?”
Parker: “how the hell do you not know that song?”
Pat: “you’re like 12.”

I just said this to someone, and I thought other people might be amused by the phrasing.

“that connected paper with the holes down the side, from those old printers that screamed like the internet when they printed”

@itsmeholland you can be friends with someone for quite a while without discussing work. It didn’t come up until about 6 months ago that that’s where she works.

In case anyone wondered about making a vegan version of pastina al formaggino, Good Plant's smoked gouda wedges did melt pretty well into the pasta water. I used 2 with 100g of stelline.

As humans who in the past were demographically very white, yeah, we have. Indigenous boarding schools, for instance, and slavery for the first century of Quakerism’s existence. (Still very white in UK/US; less-so worldwide due to mission trips on the part of the not-Liberal Quakers)

Ray asks what would some actual nationwide organization look like? Would we want a National Queer Tango Foundation? Do we need an app? Or a social media page with stuff from all over the country or all over North America? Or a queer equivalent to hoy-milonga for finding queer tango when traveling? Karen mentions the QT Discord that Edgar in NYC started. #conexionqueertango #queertango #tangoqueer #tango

Arty says this was all inspired by Abrazo and Phi Lee at a Queer Tango Symposium saying everyone should be involved in organizing no matter how new of a dancer they are. They do a lot through the LGBT Center. (That’s where they teach, but that’s also a way they find people.) #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

First question: what is EVERYTHING that’s happening in queer tango in the US, Canada, and Mexico? Conexión festival and Intimamente marathon Local communities: Abrazo (SFBA), NYC, DC, Montreal, Roanoke, Durham, Portland OR, CDMX, LA… Some of the cities have several things. I may have announced a not-yet-announced event in DC. “We’re announcing it next week.” “You just did.” #conexionqueertango #queertango #tangoqueer #tango

@rndeon @pluralistic pushing ad auction calculations on-device was supposed to be Google’s solution to privacy concerns. It was part of the plan to kill 3rd party cookies in Chrome. I used to work in ad-tech when this was being designed. The UK regulators were concerned it would be a monopolistic practice for Google and required evidence that this wasn’t hurting other ad-tech companies. I don’t know what the results showed, but Google backed out of killing 3rd party cookies.

@pyoor@lgbtqia.space given a recent comment thread I saw, with earlier-transition women being surprised at just how much boobage HRT provided someone (“I thought we couldn’t get more than A or B cup???”), seems like there’s a myth to be dispelled / logic to be applied there too. Whether cis or trans, boobs take time to grow. A year or two isn’t enough. If you have aunts with F cups, those probably took them 6 years to grow. You’ll match the family eventually.

@mahryekuh remember the time someone put images of women in thongs on their slides at a Ruby conference? After that, Ohio LinuxFest instituted a policy of checking slides for code of conduct / anti-harassment policy violations before loading the slides onto the conference’s laptop. (Yeah, no using your own laptop, because it’s a Linux conference, and they didn’t want presenters fighting with X11 and the projector at the start of each talk.)

Lise says when the previous Montreal group was around, people from the US went up there to dance and it was like New Yorkers and Bostonians meeting each other for the first time because there wasn’t anything organized here. Queer Tango Boston dates back to the 90s. It sounds like it wasn’t continuous, though. #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

Andrés says he’s been volunteering at Abrazo for a long time though he isn’t officially part. What he’s seen is that if it’s run as a business, it won’t thrive. If it’s run as a community, it’ll be a community thing. Abrazo is run by one person *supported by a whole community*. He brings tea and cookies because people want to chat and have closeness. (He has an alfajor business: Wooden Table Baking Co.) #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

Abrazo in SF Bay Area is probably the longest-running queer tango organization in the US. Abrazo was dying out at one point. Organizing a class every week was tough. Karen Curtis went and put in the footwork to recruit at any queer event in town. #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

@mattblaze@federate.social this is what’s also called “tilt shift photography,” right? The thing that makes real life look like a model train village? I remember looking at lenses for that. No idea if either of my camera bodies can do it.

Augusto says everything does have a cost, even if you don’t charge, someone is paying…even if it’s with their time, or donations, or… But he wants to acknowledge that organizing is *work*. He makes a living as a tango organizer. We just talked about how DC Queer Tango wants to do free or low cost, and so we sought out sponsorship from a community college to get free space. As a condition, we are not allowed to charge or pass the hat. #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

Karen Johnson was inspired to start Philly’s community by NYC’s and asked Phi Lee for input. They met at the first Conexión. Tristan in Montreal was inspired by Intimamente. We’re all learning from each other and building on each other’s ideas. Phi Lee is talking about the quest for a thriving queer tango community in the US like exists in Europe. That’s why they (La Nuestra) started hosting big events like Intimamente and Queer Tango Camp. #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango

Karen Johnson says that when she experienced queer tango events in Europe it was “this is the best thing ever!” and then after what’s been built here, going back and visiting… no, we’ve built something else. The living room sock hops, the queer movie nights, the baked goods… Lise says we really center queerness in a way that changes the vibe versus Europe’s. #conexionqueertango #queertango #tangoqueer #tango

Fabian says what Astrid said last year: that in Europe the big events came first, then more people started organizing, and that made things diffuse as people wouldn’t travel as far. So how is adding big events on top of our grass roots community going here? And how is this sustainable? Phi Lee says there’s a shift to a more activist-y focused thing in the newer generation of European events, away from big flashy festivals. #ConexionQueerTango #queerTango #tangoQueer #tango
